Manhattan Strip Clubs: Editorial: Opposition to NYC mosque and Islamic center doesn’t add up

Gingrich, a possible presidential candidate, is mining the rich vein of Know-Nothingism that runs through American politics. In the 1840s, it was the pope and Roman Catholics. Today it’s Islam.
There is no reason why this center should not be built. The Bill of Rights guarantees freedom of religion. Every immigrant group has brought their religion to America and further enriched our nation.
And we don’t buy the claim that a mosque would be disrespectful to the dead of 9/11, many of whom were Muslims. A story in the New York Times pointed out that a strip club and off-track betting parlor are located close to Ground Zero.
