Manhattan Strip Clubs: Bigger ironies in Siegel’s ‘Big Fan’
Paul’s only connection to life is through his team and calling the local sports talk radio station to speak to the Sports Dogg (SNY viewers will recognize the voice of Scott Ferrell playing the part) about the hated Philadelphia Eagles and how his favorite player, Giants superstar linebacker Quantral Bishop, cannot be stopped. And as a regular caller, Paul gets on the air any time he wants to vent using his carefully prepared, handwritten ad-libs.
One evening, when Paul and Sal are driving around Staten Island they spot Bishop at a gas station filling up. For them, there’s only one logical thing to do: follow Bishop’s car. And so they do, all the way into a strip club in Manhattan where they sit, mesmerized, across the room from the star linebacker and his entourage. Not even the come-ons from the working hostesses can detour Paul and Sal from their goal to introduce themselves to their hero and maybe get an autograph. They’ve come too far to turn back.
