Manhattan Escorts: Report: Gov. Paterson Drops Election Bid

New York Gov. David Paterson has decided not to run for a full term, a source told the New York Daily News on Friday.
Paterson, a Democrat, scheduled an afternoon news conference. The source said the governor, under fire for getting in touch with a woman who had accused one of his aides of domestic violence, does not plan to resign but will drop his candidacy.
The first black governor of New York, Paterson was lieutenant governor when he replaced Eliot Spitzer. Spitzer resigned in March 2008 after little more than a year in office after a federal investigation into his use of escort services became public.
State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo, is also a candidate for governor. The attorney general is investigating Paterson’s alleged contact with Sherr-Una Booker the day before a court hearing.
