Elsewhere, Ephemeral New York takes a trip back in time to look at a very different sort of terror trial: that of a murderer whom many believed to be “Jack the Ripper.” The 1891 murder of Cassie Brown, a 60-year-old prostitute, in a Bowery hotel room was brutal enough for many to believe that the infamous killer had crossed the pond from London and was now terrorizing Manhattan. Eager to solve the crime, the police quickly nabbed an Algerian hotel guest, as the blog reports:
