DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN â Although he qualified his remarks about his Red Hook [Revere Sugar] development site by saying, âœIn a perfect world,â developer Joe Sitt did confirm that his plan is for a development with retail at its base and residential â possibly even student housing â above the retail.
Sitt, principal of Thor Equities and a member of the Brooklyn Real Estate Roundtable Steering Committee, was speaking at the Roundtable luncheon Tuesday at the Brooklyn Historical Society.
âœWith IKEA on one side â the largest IKEA in the country where water taxis bring people from Manhattan â and the very successful Fairway market on the other side, there is a tremendous attraction there,â he said.
The site is still zoned for manufacturing, however, he noted.
Responding to questions from new steering committee chair David Von Spreckelsen, Sitt also confirmed he still has plans for an adult entertainment district in Coney Island â meaning restaurants, hotels and amusements â âœalthough it will now be in partnership with Mayor Bloomberg and the city.â
