In one extraordinarily bitter rebuttal, Paterson, 55, said the “bashing” sought to portray him as “racialized, hypersexualized and more or less dissolute.”
“It appears that all I’m doing is drinking, chasing women, doing drugs,” he said.
Paterson heads to the upstate town of Rochester on Saturday for his opening election campaign event and the main buzz is not about what he’ll say, but how many people will bother showing up.
According to the Daily News, another event in the mostly African American New York neighborhood of Harlem was delayed amid “disarray” in the campaign.
Clearly many of Paterson’s problems are not his fault.
He only became state governor by accident in March 2008 when the elected governor, Eliot Spitzer, resigned in a prostitution scandal and Paterson, as lieutenant governor, automatically filled the spot.
