Manhattan Adult Entertainment: New York’s Paterson to Run for 2nd Term as Governor
Paterson has attributed his poor showing in the polls to budget deficits that forced him to advocate unpopular spending cuts in education and health care. New York’s jobless rate reached 9 percent in December, 0.4 percentage point more than in November, the state labor department said last month.
‘Eternal Optimist’
The governor, who referred to himself as “an eternal optimist” in his speech today challenged people to “judge me on what I’ve done,” and promised to continue to “stand up for the people” of his state.
“After going through a year when we had the highest escalation of a budget deficit ever visited by a state in the history of this country,” Paterson said, “we were tested in ways we never thought we’d be. But we didn’t give up.”
Paterson, who served as lieutenant governor under Spitzer, has never won a statewide election. He assumed the governor’s job after Spitzer was caught patronizing prostitutes.
