Medical examiner takes stand in trial
FREEHOLD — The trial of a former Asbury Park man accused of shooting and killing a prostitute began its sixth day of testimony Thursday. A medical examiner described the wound that left the woman dead in the parking lot of the Crystal Inn on Route 35 in Neptune.
David Bass, 57, who was maintaining a Rochester, N.Y., address at the time of the murder, is accused of killing 19-year-old Jessica “Star” Shabazz after hours of smoking crack and drinking in a motel room with the drug-addicted prostitute and another woman, Antoinella Monique Johnson, both of Asbury Park.
The evening started with Bass and Johnson meeting up to buy drugs and booze before stopping off at a dollar store to buy lingerie for both of them to wear once they got to his room at the Crystal Inn, according to earlier testimony. It ended after Johnson left to get more drugs and Shabazz brought in Asbury Park drug dealer James Sinclair to sell the cross-dressing Bass about $200 worth of crack cocaine, according to testimony Tuesday.
