Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Greenwich Construction Executive Guilty In Waterbury Corruption Probe
The U.S. attorney’s office filed a complaint in court accusing Pontoriero of giving Giordano more than $8,300 in designer clothing and a $12,000 loan, which Giordano did not repay. Giordano used the so-called loan to buy a minivan, the complaint says.
In addition, Pontoriero pleaded guilty to failing to report $72,000 in taxable income to the IRS. The money was income from an automobile business unrelated to Giordano.
The FBI, in 2000, was investigating political corruption in Waterbury based on allegations that Giordano, then the mayor and an unsuccessful Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, was taking bribes from contractors trying to obtain business with the city.
While monitoring wiretaps on telephones used by Giordano, agents learned that he was paying a prostitute to arrange for him to have sex with two preteen girls in the city’s mayoral offices, among other places.
