Manhattan Massage Parlors: Mosque Madness: Islam Is Not the Enemy

We applaud two courageous men, President Barack Obama and New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, for defending the Muslim center even at considerable political risk. As the president noted, choosing the downtown sit may not have been wise, but it was the absolute right of its proponents, a right which we as Americans must defend at all costs.
Republicans, neocons and assorted racists are having a field day promoting hatred of Islam. They see it as a golden opportunity to revive charges that the president is a closet Muslim. Newt Gingrich recently kicked off his campaign for the presidency by issuing a disgusting jeremiad about the supposed dangers of Islam to the nation.
Now, the massed myrmidons of the hard right are wailing that the prayer center – which is actually interfaith – somehow violates the profound sanctity of the 9/11 “holy ground.”
I don’t known what they think about the massage parlors, escort services and bars that also abut this lower Manhattan “holy ground.”

Manhattan Massage Parlors: NJ court rules warrant is needed to search suspects’ vehicle in police custody

… Under the circumstances presented here, the warrantless search of the (vehicle) was unconstitutional,” the judges said in the 21-page published decision. “The vehicle was in police custody, and there was no danger that the evidence would be lost, compromised, or destroyed.”
The judges said the police should have obtained a search warrant while they had possession of the SUV and before searching it.
The judges said the evidence obtained from the red SUV, including classified advertising sections from several additions of The Star-Ledger that listed massage parlors, should have been suppressed and not used against Alnesha Minitee and Darnell Bland.
The pair, along with two others, were arrested in January 2003 in Fort Lee. Authorities said they attempted to flee an armed robbery of another massage parlor in Fort Lee.

Manhattan Massage Parlors: Craigslist Killer Philip Markoff’s Latest Victim — Himself

Craigslist Killer Philip Markoff’s Latest Victim — Himself
Philip Markoff and his alleged victim Julissa Brisman
Philip Markoff was a golden boy, a medical student with a wonderful girlfriend, a marriage ahead of him — and a deadly obsession. Now the 24-year-old Boston is dead himself, allegedly by his own hand in his Boston jail cell.
His alleged heinous crime earned him the name the Craigslist Killer after he murdered Manhattan model and actress Julissa Brisman, 26, last year in a botched robbery attempt. He killed himself on what would have been his first wedding anniversary.
Markoff was arrested in April 2009 for the murder of Brisman, who lived on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, who moonlighted as an erotic massage therapist.
Markoff, 24, was awaiting his March murder trial when he reportedly placed a plastic bag over his head and skillfully cut arteries in his neck and legs to hasten his death, according to the New York Daily News.

Manhattan Massage Parlors: Former madam is running for New York governor

… Andrew Cuomo has already got it,” Davis conceded, when asked about her chances in November, “but let’s show that there are certain issues that people care about.”
Growing up in Fresno, Calif., the only child of a single mother who worked for an insurance company, Davis wasn’t particularly political. Nor, she said, was she a bad girl. She worked on the school yearbook, and she said she was “the kind of girl that wasn’t part of any particular clique but that everyone liked.”
She said she attended Hoover High School for one year and then Ashlan Park Christian School. Fresno City College officials have confirmed that she attended in 1995, and Saint Mary’s College officials confirmed that she graduated in 2003 with a management degree.
Davis said she first entered the business of pleasure by investing $10,000 in a friend’s San Francisco massage parlor.
“It was a ‘happy ending’ massage parlor,” Davis explained.

Manhattan Massage Parlors: Child Sex Trafficking and The Politics of Pimping

Donna said, but she never knew exactly where she was. “I don’t know the names because one rule is to not to look. It’s called ’staying in pocket.’” Donna explained, “So we’re not allowed to look at others, we’re not allowed to look up at names of streets. It’s strictly ’stay on this corner, go to this place to catch your date, and then come right back to this corner.’”
Bradley Myles has heard similar horror stories. He is the executive director of the Polaris Project, a Washington DC based anti-trafficking organization. He said that on-going public education is needed to explain the intricacies of domestic commercial sexual exploitation. Myles said, “There is a vast mosaic of all the different ways that types of sex trafficking really play out in the United States, ranging from residential brothels out of homes and hostess clubs to even escort services. You have whole networks of these commercial front massage parlors that are really masquerading as brothels. You have forms of domestic sex trafficking, violent US citizen pimps who are using extreme forms of control over adult women and children.”

Manhattan Massage Parlors: False frivolity fails: Comely Cordoba Center continues construction

It is a colossal victory for America. It is a great victory for the American people and the US constitution. Of course Imam Fasel Rauf and Daisy Khan are elated. The Rabbis and Priests of Lower Manhattan who supported the project deserve this moment and the American people honor them.
The opponents of the Cordoba Center have no legal or moral leg to stand on. They tried to stir up hysteria based on race-baiting and fear. They tried to steam-roll the First Amendment, and the tried to use bigotry and political saber-rattling. Fox News has been in the forefront of the Crusade that fuels Islamphobia in this great nation of ours. Some of the worst bigots in the nation danced around the dead bodies of 3000 Americans, of which about 300 were Muslim-Americans.
The same players did not lift a finger to oppose Strip Clubs, Escort Services, and Massage parlors which truly desecrate the memory of the fallen. However an interfaith center that has Jews, Christians and Muslims as Board Members was supposedly anathema to the opponents.
