The discussion over the change began in May when Zoning Officer Robert Hudak suggested that a change in language of the zoning code regarding “personal services”. Hudak said at the time that some of the uses included in the ordinance — such as tattoo parlors, massage parlors, and steam baths — could lead to circumstances in which the township would be unable to easily differentiate between legitimate businesses and businesses that offered illegal services. Speaking about requests received by his office, Hudak said some businesses that could harbor illegal activity had contacted the zoning office for information.

While the exclusion of massage parlors from the list eases some differing opinions on the Township Committee, the governing body agreed to the language of the ordinance stating that excluding massage would prevent legitimate business — such as massage therapists, chiropractors, and salons that offer spa services — from operating with in Cranford.

Manhattan Massage Parlors: Crime Report: Two Arrested For DWI in Merrick

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department’s First and Seventh Precinct incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.
On Aug. 25, John George Nictas, 18, of Merrick, was arrested on Merrick Road and charged with driving while intoxicated and four violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.
On Aug. 29, Arthur Myers, 67, of Staten Island, was pulled over on the Southern State Parkway for having no break lights and using his cell phone. Myers was charged with DWI and resisting arrest after becoming combative towards the officer. Police said Myers had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .13 percent.
On Aug. 24, Min Jung Kwon, 51, of Flushing, was arrested for allegedly offering to perform sexual acts on undercover detectives inside the Merrick massage parlor where she worked. Kwon was charged with two counts each of Unauthorized Practice a Crime and Prostitution.

At the same time, a rise in awareness about the ugly world of human trafficking, where women from abroad—and, in some cases, American children—are held hostage in brothels disguised as massage parlors, has shifted law enforcement focus and resources away from traditional vice work, according to many attorneys.

A Flushing woman, who police say operated an illegal massage parlor and house of prostitution in North Massapequa, was arrested yesterday. The arrest took place following an undercover operation at 645 Broadway.
Charged in that incident was Min Jung Kwon, 51 of Sanford Ave., Flushing. Operating on information provided to them, police from Nassau County’s narcotics and vice bureau sent undercover officers to Smile Body Works at 645 Broadway where they were offered sexual acts for a fee. They subsequently arrested Kwon for prostitution. In addition, police said Kwon was not licensed to practice acupuncture, and was later charged with unauthorized practice.

“It was a little obvious,” said an employee of Nationwide Insurance of the activities he witnessed outside the illegal massage parlor. “There were a lot of weird guys hanging around. They’d ring the doorbell, walk away and then walk back a little later.”

… Craigslist” killer Philip Markoff left behind a message in blood when he killed himself on August 15th in his Boston jail cell.
Markoff, who had been held since last year on suspicion of murdering New York City masseuse Julissa Brisman, wrote his former fiance’s name in blood on the wall of his cell before dying of self-inflicted wounds.
Markoff, a former medical student originally from upstate New York, was once engaged to fellow medical student Megan McAllister. The engagement ended after Markoff’s arrest in 2009. The wedding had been scheduled for August 14, 2009.
Markoff was dubbed the Craigslist killer by the media, because he used the website to target women who advertised under the Erotic Services section of the site. He had contacted Brisman regarding an ad for an erotic massage. Brisman then traveled to the Boston area to meet Markoff, who apparently shot her in a Boston hotel.

We applaud two courageous men, President Barack Obama and New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, for defending the Muslim center even at considerable political risk. As the president noted, choosing the downtown site may not have been wise, but it was the absolute right of its proponents, a right which we as Americans must defend at all costs.
Republicans, neocons and assorted racists are having a field day promoting hatred of Islam. They see it as a golden opportunity to revive charges that the president is a closet Muslim. Newt Gingrich recently kicked off his campaign for the presidency by issuing a disgusting jeremiad about the supposed dangers of Islam to the nation.
Now, the massed myrmidons of the hard right are wailing that the prayer center which is actually interfaith somehow violates the profound sanctity of the 9/11 “holy ground.”
I dont known what they think about the massage parlors, escort services and bars that also abut this lower Manhattan “holy ground.”

In a move that apparently shocked nobody on the block, cops busted a massage parlor on East 78th Street on Monday for charging customers for sex. Cops raided the den and charged Wangshan Ye, 22, and Le Zhou, 40, for prostitution. Upstairs neighbor Derek Karney told the Daily News, “Everyone in the building knows what’s going on in there. This place has adult ads on craigslist.” The shop, which had only been open for about two months advertised “magic massage—beautiful girl,” “high tone Asian acupressure,” and “most excellent care.” We wonder how many roses they charged?

EAST BRUNSWICK — A state appeals court today threw out the convictions of two people charged in a string of armed robberies at massage parlors in 2003, finding that the search of a vehicle they were caught in was unconstitutional.
Alnesha Minitee, 34, West Orange, and Darnell Bland, 39, of Linden were part of a group of four people accused of robbing massage parlors in Middlesex, Somerset, Bergen and Essex counties.
Among the businesses robbed were massage parlors in East Brunswick and Highland Park on Jan. 16, 2003.
The group was captured in Fort Lee eight days later after robbing a massage parlor there, authorities said. When police caught them, they found Star-Ledger newspapers with classified ads for massage parlors marked with asterisks showing the ones the group robbed, authorities said. They also found the surveillance tape stolen from the East Brunswick massage parlor during one of the heists.
