New York Post: There’s a theme running through the tabloids today. As both papers scratch for “news” in the slow-going early phases of the prosecution of East Side Madam Anna Gristina to keep the story alive, a gift arrived yesterday in the form of the woman sought by investigators as a key accomplice in Gristina’s alleged enterprise.
30-year-old Williamsburg resident Jaynie Mae Baker “faces a possible seven years in prison if convicted of running a $2,000-per-visit escort service for millionaire clients, an operation that prosecutors say they are investigating for yet-to-be-described links to police protection,” but was released on $100,000 bail yesterday, posted by her boyfriend, Long Islander Marcus Laun. Baker was characterized as being on the lam when the story of the East Side Madam broke last week. Her lawyers said she had been visiting her sister in Los Angeles and took a flight with her to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico before she knew she was wanted in New York. She came back as soon as she could get a flight he said.

Any reasons for the close proximity of Ms. Gristina and the man remained immediately unclear on Friday. And Mr. Francis, on a Facebook page on which he listed himself as having “worked at” the New York Police Department, did nothing to shed light on how he knew Ms. Gristina or why he was seated with her. “Nice photo of me from back in the day,” was a comment posted on the page along with a link to the tabloid article and its photo. A little while later, a person commented on the posting, writing, “I knew it was you fredo … lol.”
A Post story today explains that the DA’s office had no idea that Francis was connected to Gristina:
“They just found out about this,” said a law-enforcement source.
The source said prosecutors are in “circle-the-wagons” mode as they probe Francis’ relationship with the woman they are accusing of running a 15-year escort service for the rich and famous.

Before he worked the DA’s office with a group of NYPD detectives assigned to assist prosecutors with their criminal investigations, the burly Francis was a chauffeur and bodyguard for Deputy First Commissioner John Pritchard in the early 1990s when current Police Commissioner Ray Kelly held that same top NYPD job.He also had worked in the Manhattan North Narcotics division of the Police Department, sources said.
It was only after Francis’ picture appeared in The Post today that Manhattan DA investigators realized his connection to Gristina, a law-enforcement source said.
“They just found out about this,” the source said, adding that the DA’s office was no in “circle-the-wagons” mode over revelations that someone previously inside the office had dealings with the woman accused of running a 15-year-long illegal escort service that catered to the ultra-rich.

Who Was Protecting the ‘Wall Streeter’ Brothel?
The latest reports about Anna Gristina, the self-styled “hockey mom” accused of running an Upper East Side prostitution ring, seem to make it very clear that she has connections high up in law enforcement.
Irma Nici, who has previously claimed to have slept with David Beckham and Eliot Spitzer, worked for Gristina for six months in 2002 and told The Post that the mother of four “laughed” when other escort services went down.
“She always did say she had someone giving her a heads up,” the Bosnian brunette revealed to The Post.
“When Fleur de Elite [a competing brothel run by another madam] was busted, she was laughing because she had inside information.”
Palmeri quotes Kristin Davis, a former madam who claims to have had Eliot Spitzer as a client, saying Gristina must have had some form of official protection.

NEW YORK (CNN) — A New York judge has denied a request to reduce the bail of a woman accused of running a multimillion-dollar escort service for high-powered clientele, according to court documents.
The bail for Anna Gristina, a New York mother of four, is currently set at $2 million bond or $1 million cash. The reduction request was denied Tuesday.
Gristina, 44, was arrested on February 22 and has been charged with promoting prostitution in the third degree. She is suspected of running a brothel out of an apartment in Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
Prosecutor Charles Linehan said his office had requested the large bail because Gristina is considered “an extremely high flight risk.”

SPITZER TIPPED OFF MADAM TO INVESTIGATION
The Manhattan-based madam, Anna Gristina, arrested last week for running a high-end escort service was warned of an impending crackdown on escort services by her client Attorney General Elliot Spitzer in 2005.
Kristin Davis, who ran a Manhattan call-girl service used by disgraced former Gov. Spitzer, said she shared a booker, Winnie Wong, with Gristina.
Davis said she once spoke to Wong, who told her that Spitzer alerted Gristina to a 2005 investigation. Davis has taken and passed a lie detector test regarding her conversation with Wong in which Wong declared that Spitzer had given Gristina the warning. The New York Daily News reported the incident but failed to identify Spitzer, claiming only that a ‘high-level official” had tipped off Gristina.
Davis said that the tip from Spitzer prompted Gristina to shut down her agency, Fleur d’ Elite, and lay low for a while. In other words, Spitzer abused his official position to protect a prostitution ring were he was a client.
