Manhattan Escorts: Raging ‘madam’ & gal put cops on their trail with 2004 fight

… I own New York!” accused Upper East Side madam Anna Gristina threatened a woman named Jennifer Billo in a June 2004 argument over use of the East 78th Street apartment that Manhattan district attorney investigators say was operating as a brothel, sources told The Post.
“I’m going down to the city, and I’m going to beat your head in with a baseball bat,” Gristina allegedly told the blond beauty, resulting in the mother of four’s first — and, until this year, only — arrest.
Gristina had been calling from her 200-acre farm in upstate Monroe, where she lives with her husband, children and an assortment of rescue pigs.
Billo, then 24, was at the apartment that investigators now say was an “in-call” brothel connected to Gristina’s alleged law enforcement-protected, multimillion-dollar escort service.

Manhattan Escorts: Goldman fund to exit company owning sex traffic site

Raphael said the fund invested $30 million in the Village Voice in 2000. The investment was converted into a 16 percent minority stake when the Village Voice merged with New Times Inc in 2006.
She declined to disclose the sales price, but said the fund lost a “vast majority” of its investment.
Village Voice Media was not immediately available for a comment.
Online prostitution advertising generated at least $3.1 million in revenue in February, on five U.S. websites, an increase of 9.8 percent from a year earlier, according to interactive media and classified advertising consultant AIM Group. Nearly 80 percent of the revenue was attributed to Backpage.com, AIM said in a report published March 22.
Village Voice Media owns the alternative newspaper The Village Voice, which was founded in 1955.
Over the years, the newspaper has published groundbreaking investigations and received three Pulitzer Prices. Its back pages, in contrast, have for decades been the bastion of escort service advertising.

Manhattan Escorts: NICOLE POPE

The New York prosecutors eventually dropped the rape charge against DSK, after it was revealed that Guinean-born Nafissatou Diallo had not been entirely truthful about her past. Inconsistencies in her story undermined her credibility, but DSK himself could not deny that a sexual encounter had taken place. He claimed it was consensual.
Now facing a civil suit in the US, he is trying to have the claim dismissed, arguing that his position at the head of the IMF granted him immunity. Will the judge accept that he should be given legal protection? The once powerful DSK is also in hot judicial waters in France, where he has just been officially charged for “aggravated procurement in an organized gang,” after it emerged that business associates seeking to curry favor were organizing “parties” attended by escort girls, who were even flown to Washington to entertain the former IMF chief.

Manhattan Escorts: Ex-NYPD officer Michael Pena convicted on six of ten charges

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance issued a statement saying he wanted to âœcommend the victim for her bravery and thank the jury for its service. In this brutal attack against an innocent young woman, the defendant showed no mercy. At sentencing, we will recommend that he receive none.â
Sentencing is scheduled for May 7, but Savitt said he has until April 18 to file his motion to dismiss the verdict. If his motion is denied, âœwe plan to appeal that denial,â he said.
In the trial, Savitt did not dispute his clientâs attack of the woman, but argued for his clientâs innocence based on technical interpretations of sex crime laws. The teacher, who was about to begin the first day of a new job on August 19 when Pena, after a night of drinking, calling escort services and hitting on a waitress, forced her into a courtyard behind 83 Park Terrace, telling the 25-year-old woman to âœshut the f— up or Iâll shoot you.â

Manhattan Escorts: Cop convicted of sexual assault, jury deadlocked on rape charges

The verdict was announced after the shocking revelation that one of the jurors had been acquainted with Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance but failed to disclose his acquaintanceship during jury selection because he felt he could deliberate without bias.
A prior relationship could be grounds for a mistrial, but when the judge announced the apparent conflict, Pena’s defense attorney, Ephraim Savitt, told the court, “He’s saying he’s neutral. I can live with that,” according to the Daily News.
Pena, who had spent the night of August 18 in Inwood drinking heavily while watching strippers, hitting on a waitress and making unreturned calls to escort services, admitted threatening the 25-year-old woman with a gun and attacking her the next morning, but has denied he is guilty of rape, contending he did not penetrate her vaginally. Two witnesses testified to seeing Pena attack the woman.

Prosecutors have said Gristina peddled prostitutes for 15 years and claimed law enforcement contacts. Parco and her lawyers say she was launching a dating service.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office wouldn’t comment. Gristina’s lawyer didn’t immediately return a call.
A person familiar with the matter tells The Associated Press that a woman told prosecutors in 2004 that Gristina was running an escort service, with a dispatcher who was married to a police sergeant. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the investigation surrounding Gristina.

Manhattan Escorts: Revealed: Alleged Scottish madam Anna Gristina provided hooker to disgraced US …

The date with the hooker was allegedly organised by an Edwards aide and took place at a hotel on the Upper East Side rather than the flat Gristina is said to have used as a brothel.
During his trips to the city, Edwards usually stayed at the plush Loews Hotels Regency on the Upper East Side, where he had meetings with his long-term mistress Rielle Hunter.
The former senator is due in court in North Carolina on Monday to answer charges of using nearly $1million in campaign donations to cover up his affair and love child with Hunter.
Each of the six counts he is charged with carries a maximum five-year prison term and $250,000 fine.
At the time the New York escort girl was questioned, investigators found her to be a “credible witness” but they did not see a reason to notify police at a time when Edwards’s campaign was at its peak and he was seen as a clean-cut family man.

The one-night fling allegedly took place at an Upper East Side hotel suite and was arranged by an aide with help from a New Yorker familiar with Gristina’s prostitution ring, sources told DNAinfo.
Gristina has been arrested and is suspected of running a $15 million New York prostitution ring with a “black book” allegedly containing a client list of powerful, wealthy, and politically connected clients.
