Manhattan Escorts: Accused NYC madam makes legal switch _ her 3rd

NEW YORK The accused suburban-mom madam of a multimillion-dollar Manhattan escort service has moved on to a new legal team her fourth.
A judge agreed Tuesday to let Anna Gristina make her third legal switch. She’s now represented by seasoned Connecticut civil rights and criminal defense lawyer Norman Pattis.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office says Gristina peddled prostitutes for 15 years and bragged that she had law-enforcement contacts. Gristina’s lawyers have said she was merely starting a matchmaking business.
She’s pleaded not guilty to promoting prostitution.
Altogether, nine lawyers have appeared on her case at various times. One former Gristina attorney, Peter Gleason, offered to put up his apartment for her $2 million bail.
The judge urged other arrangements. Gristina has yet to raise bail.

Manhattan Escorts: Self-proclaimed ‘King of All Pimps’ sentenced to four years in prison

… In Nevada, the saying is, ‘If it doesn’t scare the horses, who cares?’” he told Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Thomas Farber before being led away in his handcuffs and black velvet jacket.
“I predict here and now that eight years from now, in the year 2020, New York and other enlightened states will decriminalize the world’s oldest profession, namely prostitution,” he said, ending his statement with, “And I’d like to give a shout-out to Billy Ray Cyrus!”
The perennially stoned Itzler, 44, had mistakenly believed that the alleged john in the case — a Pennsylvania man who paid Itzler $19,500 for a cocaine and hooker binge at the Trump International Hotel last year — was country singer Billy Ray Cyrus using an alias.
This is Itzler’s second escort service conviction; in 2007 he pleaded guilty to running New York Confidential, an escort service prosecutors say earned $1.2 million.

Manhattan Escorts: Judge frowns on accused NY madam’s 3rd atty switch

Judge frowns on accused NY madam’s 3rd atty switch
Only three months into her case, a suburban mother accused of running a multimillion-dollar Manhattan escort service is on her fourth set of lawyers.
Anna Gristina tried Wednesday to swap her legal team for a fourth time, aiming to bring on a veteran Connecticut criminal defense and civil rights attorney.
A judge said no _ at least for now _ during a testy hearing. He upbraided Gristina for interrupting him, criticized the outspoken conduct of one of her former lawyers and also expressed concern that the legal merry-go-round is slowing down the case.
“I’m concerned about judicial efficiency in this case,” state Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan said.
While raising four children and rescuing pigs at her home in Monroe, N.Y., Gristina arranged Manhattan assignations for wealthy clients for more than a decade and boasted of having law-enforcement connections who could protect her, the Manhattan district attorney’s office says. Her former lawyers have said she was simply trying to start a dating business.

Manhattan Escorts: Strauss-Kahn countersues NY hotel maid for $1 million

Strauss-Kahn’s court filing comes two weeks after Bronx Supreme Court Justice Douglas McKeon rejected his motion to throw out Diallo’s civil lawsuit on the grounds he had diplomatic immunity at the time of the incident.
The countersuit cites claims by prosecutors that Diallo proved to be an unreliable witness, after they concluded she had lied about her past and offered varying accounts of her behavior in the moments that followed the incident.
“It should come as no surprise that Mr. Strauss-Kahn is asserting claims against Ms. Diallo for her false allegations against him,” one of Strauss-Kahn’s lawyers, William Taylor, said in a statement. “She is directly responsible for his being arrested, imprisoned, and subjected to extraordinary pain, anguish and expense.”
Strauss-Kahn’s legal troubles have persisted since his return to France after the dismissal of the criminal case. In March, French authorities announced he was under formal investigation in connection with a prostitution ring in the northern city of Lille.

Manhattan Escorts: Sex-Trafficking Bill Could Make New York City Cabbies Learn About Prostituion

The bill, likely to pass, would teach city cabbies how to help prostitute passengers. From The New York Post:
The course — designed to help hacks ID prostitutes and tell them about available resources — would be mandatory for anyone applying for a TLC license, according to a bill expected to soon pass the City Council. Mayor Bloomberg said he would sign the bill, which requires the city to design and update the course regularly.
In December, the Committee on Women’s Issues and the Committee on Transportation introduced two bills targeting sex-trafficking. WNYC reported:
One bill proposes a $10,000 penalty for drivers who knowingly participate in sex trafficking and asks the Taxi and Limousine Commission to institute an education program on sex trafficking for all drivers. The other bill raises penalties for driving an unlicensed vehicle for hire.

In April, a father/son team was arrested for allegedly operating a brutal sex trafficking business in Manhattan–a “brothel on wheels”–in which they branded the prostitutes with tattoos.
