Take another look at the batting order ahead of Cuomo. Hevesi was the first to resign, in December of ‘06. He punched his own ticket out of office in a plea bargain in Albany. He copped to one count of defrauding the government, having been caught using state employees to help care for his ailing wife. It kept him away from a grand jury indictment. He paid a $5,000 fine on his way out the door and is banned from ever again holding elective office.
Spitzer was the next to go, of course, March of 2008. He rode into the governor’s mansion as a white knight and ended up at hotels with girls from an escort service. Spitzer finally got caught with pants down, quit, turned the job over to Paterson.

New York state has many distinctions, and it may possibly gain another—three different governors serving during one normal four-year term. This is something we can do without.
The prospect that governor No. 2, David Paterson, might call it quits before the present term ends on December 31, is becoming more of a possibility every day, as new revelations emerge about his involvement in a domestic violence case concerning one of his top aides.
Eliot Spitzer was the first to serve in the gubernatorial term that began in early January 2007. A little more than a year later, in early February 2008, Spitzer was revealed as a customer of an exclusive escort service. Two days later, he resigned, opening the door of the governor’s mansion in Albany to Lieutenant Governor David Paterson.

Three charged in human trafficking crackdown
By: Scott McCabe
Examiner Staff WriterMarch 3, 2010
Montgomery County police have made human trafficking arrests in three cases in which they said pimps used Facebook or Craigslist to recruit teenage girls and solicit business.
One suspect ran a web design business in New York. A Maryland man had an Internet escort service that authorities say was a front for prostitution and human trafficking, and a D.C. man was charged with trying to recruit a 16-year-old girl he met on a social networking site
“The Internet has become the modern day track,” said Sgt. Ken Penrod, referring to the street corners where men traditionally cruise looking for prostitutes. “We just want people to know that it is occurring, that they’re using sites like MySpace to recruit your child.”

The three women and Hubert were arrested on several charges including human trafficking of a juvenile for prostitution, sexual abuse of a minor and second-degree child abuse.
On Feb. 24 police arrested 24-year-old Deangelo Bynum, of northeast Washington. Court documents show that Bynum used Facebook to try and recruit at least one minor for prostitution. Police said he communicated with the recruit through the social networking Web site, but when he traveled to meet her, the minor actually was an undercover Montgomery County detective, and Bynum is now behind bars.
Montgomery County detectives’ last arrest came on Friday, when they nabbed 31-year-old Arash Koraganie Ghulam Abbas, of Germantown.
He is charged with multiple counts of human trafficking for running an Internet escort service that police said was really used for prostitution.

Associated Press03/02/10 11:18 AM EST
ROCKVILLE, MD. — Montgomery County police say a crackdown on human trafficking has led to multiple arrests.
Police say 31-year-old Arash Koraganie Ghulam Abbas of Germantown was arrested and charged with several counts of human trafficking on Friday. Officials say Abbas had an Internet escort service that ran as a front for prostitution and human trafficking.
Two days earlier, police arrested 24-year-old Deangelo A. Bynum of northeast Washington and charged him with solicitation of a minor for prostitution in another case. Bynum is accused of trying to recruit a 16-year-girl he found on Facebook.
Earlier last month, police made four arrests connected with a group that brought a 15-year-old girl from New York to Maryland and advertised her on Craigslist for prostitution.

… Data published by the city of New York clearly shows that the economic crisis has increased homelessness among NYC single individuals and families,” said economics lecturer Anna Musatti. “Starting from 2001, families with children represent a larger and fast-increasing portion of the city homeless.”
Out of the 410 students at Carmel’s school, he knows of six who are currently living in shelters. But he said that there could be more, since he only knows students are homeless if they tell him personally, because shelters can also be used as a permanent address for school paperwork.
“Some of our kids are real troopers,” Carmel said. “They pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and … charge ahead with work.”
Democracy Prep provides students with transportation to and from school if they don’t qualify for city-issued MetroCards, an escort service, outside support while their parents are busy, and in-school counseling, Carmel said.

New York Gov. David Paterson has decided not to run for a full term, a source told the New York Daily News on Friday.
Paterson, a Democrat, scheduled an afternoon news conference. The source said the governor, under fire for getting in touch with a woman who had accused one of his aides of domestic violence, does not plan to resign but will drop his candidacy.
The first black governor of New York, Paterson was lieutenant governor when he replaced Eliot Spitzer. Spitzer resigned in March 2008 after little more than a year in office after a federal investigation into his use of escort services became public.
State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo, is also a candidate for governor. The attorney general is investigating Paterson’s alleged contact with Sherr-Una Booker the day before a court hearing.

Both the New York Post and the New York Daily News are reporting that Paterson has decided to drop out of the race. An official announcement is expected later Friday.
The governor’s decision clears the Democratic primary field for state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who’d been the heavy favorite anyway. It might end up scaring off Republicans too; there was speculation that a primary fight with Paterson would hurt Cuomo with black voters for the general election, but that won’t happen now.
Paterson will reportedly not resign his office. If he did, the job would go to Lt. Gov. Richard Ravitch.
There’s an ironic note to this whole story. Paterson only became governor because he was lieutenant governor when the Times revealed then-Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s use of an escort service. Now Paterson himself has been taken down by the Times as well.

Joslyn James, 32, said she was expecting Tiger’s babies at the same time his Swedish wife Elin was pregnant with his two children.
She said she miscarried the first child about the time Elin gave birth to daughter Sam in June 2007.
And she claimed she aborted the second baby close to the February 2009 birth of Woods’s son Charlie.
James, whose film CV includes Big Breasted Nurses and My First Sex Teacher, said her three-year affair with the disgraced sports hero always involved unprotected sex.
But she insisted she never told 34-year-old Woods that she was pregnant. “I didn’t want to ruin anything,” she said.
Interviewed on US TV, James said she was still in love with Woods, despite being one of as many as 11 alleged mistresses, including waitresses, escort girls and another porn actor.

Avants was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, where he died in 2004.
By 1969, Kornblum had become director of security at Princeton University, where he received a doctorate from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in 1973, his dissertation on ethical behavior and corruption in the New York City Police Department. Because he was a student as well as an administrator, he was able to attend many “students-only” meetings as unrest swept the nation’s campuses. He creatively ended a December 1970 “snow riot,” a semi-nude demonstration by hundreds of students at the first snowfall, by starting a chant of “Dillon! Dillon!” that directed them to Dillon Gym, where hot chocolate and doughnuts awaited. Two years later, after women had been admitted to Princeton, he established escort services to ensure their safety.
