Manhattan Strip Clubs: Stop Over in Paris

THURSDAY’S PUZZLE — We haven’t seen Alan Arbesfeld since October, when he told us a very funny riddle about underwear (Across Lite, Solution, blog), but he’s back today with a letter addition theme that I thought was a bit easy for the “twist” I’ve come to expect from Thursday grids. Even so, I thought his theme was punny and enjoyable.
Mr. Arbesfeld adds “ST-” to five entries, and I was amused by the first three; your mileage may vary. STALL FOR ONE sounds like a cozy place to be if you’re a horse, and if it’s your first time in Dallas, say, you and your tour group are TEXAS STRANGERS. I thought the middle entry was funny, but I might think twice about hiring a performer named JACK THE STRIPPER if I were ever to have another bachelorette party.

Manhattan Strip Clubs: In Case You Missed It, Here’s a De-Cap: HEADLESS BODY IN TOPLESS BAR!

HEADLESS BODY IN TOPLESS BAR
I was in the New York Post newsroom the day that immortal headline was born, and I’ll get to that in a moment, but first allow me to set the scene.
What a scene it was.
In those days the New York Post was the Moneyball equivalent of a newspaper staff, a ragtag collection of remarkably talented, wildly colorful characters.
At the same time it was also like a mental health clinic in which nearly everybody was undermedicated.
Not a bad bunch to have when you’re trying to grab the city by the lapels and shout in its face.

HEADLESS BODY IN TOPLESS BAR

Suddenly city editor Dick Belsky called across the newsroom: “Hang on, Vinnie, we’re not a hundred per cent sure it’s a topless bar!”

Manhattan Strip Clubs: Are Brooklyn And Portland Actually The Same Place?

adrienne urbanski I’ve heard it said that Minneapolis and Portland are twin cities, not Brooklyn and Portland. Brooklyn generally lacks laid back hippies, coffee shops,  and food co-ops (due perhaps to the insanely high cost of rent).
tien Even in Western Brooklyn (to say nothing about the rest of Brooklyn), there are black people. Portland felt like the whitest city I’ve ever been to. Except maybe in Asia.
While the notation of (Western) is appreciated.
This story is still describing aspects that take up about 1/5 of all of Brooklyn
I doubt the fine gentlemen at a knights of columbus club in Bay Ridge would appreciate this carpetbagger bullshit reporting.
And people from Portland might note the fact you left off the 2 aspects of living in that city you can’t avoid – strip clubs and unemployment.
