Eliot Spitzer, the former New York governor who resigned amid a prostitution scandal, says he will vote for the only Democrat vying for the governor’s seat, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.
Spitzer told the New York Times”I think it’s clear he will win.” Spitzer even said he intended to cast a ballot for Cuomo — though last spring he had expresses reservations about his qualifications. When asked if he intended to vote for him — during a recent television news program — he responded “sure I am.”
But, he said Cuomo “has a tough road ahead of him.”
Last month, a Quinnipiac University poll released found the Democrat is favored more than 2-to-1 over his challengers for the seat in Albany, Republicans Rick Lazio and Carl Paladino.
…
Putting the prostitution scandal that brought him down behind him, Spitzer will also soon co-host a prime time talk show on CNN.

Spitzer resigned as governor after being outed as “Client No. 9″ in a prostitution-ring sting. His TV debut is part of an effort to rehabilitate his image in order to run for New York mayor when Mayor Michael Bloombergs third term ends in 2013.
…
Former New York Atty. Gen. Spitzerthe so-called “Sheriff of Wall Street”was never charged with a crime. He admitted to soliciting prostitutes and gave prosecutors the names of the escort-service owners and prostitutes in exchange for not being prosecuted himself.
The federal investigation of Spitzer ended with U.S. Atty. Michael Garcias bizarre statement: “We have determined that there is insufficient evidence to bring charges against Mr. Spitzer.” Garcia, however, conceded that “on multiple occasions, Mr. Spitzer arranged for women to travel from one state to another state to engage in prostitution.”

Seymour Pine, the deputy police inspector who led the raid on the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village, on a hot summer night in 1969 — a moment that helped start the gay liberation movement — died Thursday at an assisted-living center in Whippany, N.J. He was 91.
His death was confirmed by his son Daniel.
Inspector Pine, who later apologized for his role in the raid, was commander of the New York Police Department’s vice squad for Lower Manhattan when he led eight officers into the Stonewall Inn, an illegal club frequented by cross-dressers, just after midnight on June 28, 1969.
Although the ostensible reason for the raid was to crack down on prostitution and other organized-crime activities, it was common at the time for the police to raid gay bars and arrest transvestites and harass customers.

CNN christens its new talk show ‘Parker Spitzer’
(AP) – 11 hours ago
NEW YORK — CNN is unveiling the title and premiere date of its new prime-time talk show pairing former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and conservative columnist Kathleen Parker.
The name is, simply, “Parker Spitzer.” CNN said Tuesday the show will premiere Oct. 4, airing weeknights at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
The second-billed Spitzer will begin the show perhaps best known for having resigned as governor in disgrace two years ago following a prostitution scandal. Parker has been a Southern-based newspaper columnist for much of her life and won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary.
“Parker Spitzer” will face tough competition on rival cable news networks: Bill O’Reilly on Fox News Channel and Keith Olbermann at MSNBC.
The program was originally announced in June.

In the same interview, Mr. Spitzer, who is preparing to be a co-host of a prime time program on CNN, declined to choose among the five Democrats vying in the primary to succeed Mr. Cuomo as attorney general.
He recalled that Eric R. Dinallo had worked for him in the attorney general’s office, described State Senator Eric T. Schneiderman as having “genuinely fought for reform, Sean Coffey as “a great lawyer” and Assemblyman Richard L. Brodsky as a “smart legislator.” As for Kathleen M. Rice, the Nassau County district attorney, he said, “Her credentials are a little less applicable to the attorney general’s office.”
Asked during a debate in July whether she would have prosecuted Mr. Spitzer, who resigned two years ago after a prostitution scandal but against whom federal prosecutors ultimately declined to file charges, Ms. Rice was the only candidate to say yes.

Among other things, the analysis shows that Mr. Paladino, who holds himself out as a fiery ideologue on the campaign trail, has been highly practical in the way he has doled out money, contributing to both Democrats and Republicans.
When Mr. Pataki, a Republican, was governor, Mr. Paladino gave him more than $76,000. But Mr. Paladino quickly switched sides once Mr. Pataki, who has endorsed and is campaigning for Mr. Lazio, decided not to seek re-election.
He pumped more than $26,000 into the campaign of the leading candidate to replace Mr. Pataki in the 2006 election: Eliot Spitzer, a Democrat who was then attorney general. When Mr. Spitzer resigned in March 2008 amid a prostitution scandal, Mr. Paladino began donating money to Mr. Spitzer’s successor, David A. Paterson, a Democrat, giving him a total of $10,000 that year.

Those trying to sell sex who give up on Craiglist have many other sites to choose from. As Craigslist users complained about the company’s move in postings Sunday, some rattled off the names of other sites where they could find the same services.
Getting such ads removed from other sites is the next goal, said Malika Saada Saar, executive director of the Rebecca Project for Human Rights, a group that has been involved in pressuring Craigslist to block adult services ads.
“The issue isn’t going after a particular company,” Saar said, “the issue is going after children being sold for sex online.”
Palfrey said Craiglist’s decision is likely to cause operators of other online classified pages to think twice about the ads on their sites. Backpage.com, an online classifieds page similar to Craigslist owned by the alternative newspaper chain Village Voice Media, has an “adult entertainment” section that is highly explicit and features ads for a wide array of sexual services.
