In 2002, Devitt, an Irishman living in New York, traveled to Finland to film an air guitar reality TV show for VH-1. He competed in the championships, impressively taking fourth place, but VH-1 pulled the plug on the show. Although discouraged, Devitt saw potential and in 2003 he put on the first U.S. Air Guitar competition above a strip club in Manhattan’s financial district. “It is my gift to America, ” he says. The outsider event quickly gained momentum, growing from a strictly L.A. and New York affair to a 24-city national tour in 2008, and the 2006 documentary Air Guitar Nation chronicled its fiercely passionate and expansive collection of competitors and fans. “I can’t explain what is so addictive about air guitar,” says Crane. “It gives the opportunity for a certain person that never found an outlet in sports or rock n roll to meet in the middle.”

In a USA TODAY article, Natalie Portman had this to say about her troubled character, Nina:
“The character was very interesting to play, always challenging and surprising. The fact that I had spent so much time with the idea — Darren and I started discussing doing the film in 2000 — allowed it to marinate a little before we shot.”
From what I’ve read, Black Swan looks to be a cross between All About Eve and 1948′s The Red Shoes with gothic undertones. I am a little amused that Portman’s character is one that lacks sexuality, after she got an Oscar nomination for playing a stripper in 2004′s Closer. Portman studied ballet until the age of 13 and has always wanted to do a dance film. To gear up for the role she trained with a veteran performer of the New York City Ballet.

The report fell short of recommending the correct — and most obvious — course of action: firing Commissioner Gladys Carrion. But that’s precisely the step Paterson — one of Carrion’s fiercest defenders — needs to take.
The state Commission of Correction ripped into Carrion’s Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) for its disastrous “social dance”-turned-sex-party for convicted felons at the Goshen Secure Center last December.
And then, just yesterday, The Post’s Fredric U. Dicker and Brendan Scott report, OCFS held a wedding ceremony and three-hour reception for an inmate serving three nine-year sentences for aggravated assault.
In the initial incident, The Post first reported, a suspected prostitute and an underage girl were chauffeured by state workers to what turned into an out-of-control sex party for murderers and armed robbers. “There was less planning, organization and precaution than one expects at a conventional high-school prom,” the report concluded.

American Movie Classics January Jones as Betty Draper in “Mad Men” “Are you going off to be a Mad Man?” I asked my husband as he downed the last of his coffee, slid his laptop into its case, and headed for the door. “No,” he said, giving his shirttail a final tug. “But I’m about to be an Irritated Man.” I can’t blame him. Since “Mad Men” entered the cultural consciousness, I have harassed my husband, an advertising creative director, with a multitude of questions, mostly of the facetious variety. “No,” he replies, with diminishing patience, “I don’t start drinking at 10 a.m., I’m not allowed to use my expense account for prostitutes, I don’t compulsively pat the bottoms of secretaries at work. We don’t even have secretaries anymore. That’s a profession whose time has passed, like silversmiths and fletchers and the people who make barrels.” “Coopers,” I say. “A person who makes barrels is called a cooper. As in …

It’s Thanksgiving, 1964, and the new company SCDP has grown from a hotel start-up to playing in the big leagues, with an office in the Time Life Building. The fledgling company has met with some success, but in the premiere episode, Don’s mistake might put all those efforts to waste.
His big gaff may have something to do with an interview he’s pressured into doing with the press.
“[The] new season is all about what it’s like for this very secretive man who has a dual identity to suddenly be front and center as one of the faces of the new agency,” creator Matthew Weiner told New York Magazine. “How is he going to handle it?”
On the personal front, the family holiday finds Don a divorced man living in The Village. The ladies’ man is in a bit of a funk and seems to have lost his game. He has even resorted to paying a call girl or two for some action, but Sterling hopes to change his pal’s streak by setting him up on a blind date.
