Manhattan Strip Clubs: Surveying the Wreckage

n January 2007, four small-time fund managers with few Wall Street connections invited themselves to a Las Vegas conference of players in the mortgage-bond business. The interlopers mission: to see if they were wrong in betting against subprime mortgage securities. They found a money manager who couldnt care less if his clients lost everything on mortgage-related collateralized debt obligations (CDOs): he made money on quantity, not quality. They found a Bear Stearns CDO salesman more interested in playing cowboy at a shooting range than in discussing the housing market. They found ratings analysts utterly indifferent to their crucial jobsassessing the risk of trillions of dollars worth of mortgage-related securities. And they learned about some of the average people who had taken out so many mortgages, including a stripper who was juggling five home-equity loans, all dependent on ever-rising home prices.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Human-rights abuses undermine fight against AIDS, world health body says

Dr. Souteyrand said many people who are infected do not come forward because they would risk prosecution. These include gay men where homosexuality is criminalized (more than 80 countries), intravenous drug users and commercial sex workers where prostitution is illegal.
Even where these activities are not illegal, there can be social stigma. That stigma is also felt by many infected girls and women, who can be cast out of their families and communities if they are identified as having HIV-AIDS.

She said too many girls are raped, trafficked into prostitution and forced into marriage, and too many are denied access to abortion and birth control, and they are highly vulnerable to infection with HIV-AIDS.

Amy Hitchcock, Sky News Online
Andy Garcia is trying out comedy for his latest role, City Island, in which he stars with his daughter Dominik Garcia-Lorido.
Father and daughter in life, as well as film
He is best known for playing the gangster in films such as The Godfather Part 3 and, more recently, the Casino owner in Ocean’s Eleven.
But, in his new film, City Island, the only person who wants to kill him is his wife.
City Island is about the lies a family tells one another. Garcia plays Vince Rizzo, a New York City correction’s officer, who doesn’t know that his daughter is working as a stripper to pay for college.
Garcia produced and stars in the low budget heart warmer about a dysfunctional family. It was made in just four weeks on a budget of less than £4m – just a fraction of Avatar’s £200m budget but Garcia says: “We ran out of money for the blue part of it.”
