Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Worth a Response: Why Yemen is Not Afghanistan

Worth provides historical backdrop in his article, but at times confuses aspersions with probability. President al-Hamdi was murdered, perhaps with Saudi instigation because he was interested in uniting with the south, but to state that “The killers had thrown the bodies of murdered French prostitutes beside him to blacken his legacy” is accurate in terms of the intent except that the French girls in question were probably not prostitutes but innocent victims. There are many other “minor” infringements on the actual facts, but this is after all a popular magazine article and not a scholarly treatise in a peer-reviewed periodical. There is a need for articles like this in popular forums, but not when they do more damage than saying nothing at all. It is impossible, I suggest, for an average reader with little or no knowledge of Yemen to read this reporting and not conclude that Yemen is either just like Afghanistan or close enough.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Tatoo, adult enterprises OK’d in Chatham butâ€-

CHATHAM – With no protest from officials and members of the public alike, Borough Council members on Monday unanimously adopted a local ordinance that will regulate where, when and how adult entertainment, and tattoo and body piercing establishments can operate. Thanks to an extended council meeting that followed the formal presentation of the Municipal Pool/Memorial Park Advisory Committee, lengthy public comments on sundry other matters, and a closed session concerning various litigation issues, adoption followed a public hearing that was held at 10:20 p.m., nearly three hours after the posted time for the hearing.Actually an overlay to current land development regulations, the measure initially focused on tattoo parlors but was broadened to include the other operations.By law, a municipality cannot bar adult services from seeking to set up shop, and to date, no one has filed an application with planners for any such establishments.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Hefner faces losing Playboy to his rival

But experts say it has an immensely valuable asset in the globally recognised bunny head logo. Under licensing deals, the logo adorns a Las Vegas casino and products ranging from aftershave to lingerie, luggage and watches.
”There are opportunities in anything from energy drinks to condoms and cigarettes – anything that could benefit from a potentially edgy brand,” said David Bank, a media analyst at RBC Capital Markets in New York.
Branding opportunities could be tantalising in Asia, where conservative cultures are embracing the bunny. Playboy Enterprises recently struck a deal with the company Las Vegas Sands to open a Playboy casino in Macau.
Steve Marascia, an analyst at Capitol Securities Management, said: ”Asia is slowly opening up to new types of adult entertainment … there are definitely opportunities – but for Playboy, it’s all about execution.”

Fri Jul 16, 2010 8:13am EDT
* Cites inability to devote time to Playboy
* Resignation not related to disagreement with company
NEW YORK July 16 (Reuters) – Playboy Enterprises Inc (PLA.N) said on Friday said board member Russ Pillar has resigned, citing time constraints.
Playboy, the adult entertainment company that is being pursued separately by founder Hugh Hefner and Penthouse publisher FriendFinder Networks, said Pillar’s decision was not a result of a disagreement with the company.
“Mr. Pillar noted in his resignation that he is no longer able to make the time commitment he believes is needed to adequately serve the company’s interests,” the company said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Pillar, formerly a senior executive at Viacom Inc (VIAb.N) and Richard Branson’s Virgin Entertainment Group, is managing director of The 5850 Group, an investor in consumer branded media-based businesses. He also serves as president of the Los Angeles Marathon.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: The 2010 International AIDS Conference: A Preview

This year’s IAC program focuses on the HIV/AIDS epidemic as it relates to intravenous drug users in the Central/East Europe region, where the HIV infection rates among drug users are some of the the highest in the world. Many advocates at the conference are promoting the Vienna Declaration, a statement seeking to improve community health and safety by calling for the incorporation of scientific evidence into illicit drug policies.
I’m interested to hear more about the difficulties women who use drugs in this region have in terms of having their human rights fulfilled — including their sexual and reproductive rights, and comprehensive access to health services.
At such a big conference, conveing with global communities outside of panel sessions and the Global Village tabling area can be difficult. Luckily, there are several pre-conference meetings, including the Vienna Youth Force and Sex Worker sessions, which I will be attending. IWHC is co-hosting an Inter-generational Dialogue among feminists and women living with HIV, and I am looking forward to giving the opening remarks for the Sex work, Punitive Laws, and Human Rights panel on July 22nd.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: To Fight AIDS, Fight Gender Inequality

The women want their governments to comply with the “Agenda for
Accelerated Country Action for Women, Girls, Gender Equality and HIV (2010-
2014),” launched in March by the Joint United Nations Programme on
HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
UNAIDS states that HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is the principal cause
of illness and death among child-bearing-age women in the world.
The agenda is a response “to the pressing need to address the persistent
gender inequalities and human rights violations that put women and girls at a
greater risk of HIV” through specific actions, focussing at the groups most at
risk.
Included under the Women ARISE umbrella are the International Women’s
Health Coalition, World AIDS Campaign, Global Network of Sex Work Projects,
International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS, and the African
Treatment Access Movement, among many other entities.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Yardwork: Lincecum’s Gem, and Heyward & Beltran Return

Giants 2, Mets 0: Timmy went the distance on six hits, a walk and five strikeouts, spoiling the return of Carlos Beltran (1 for 4) and his timeless neg-burns. Remember when even the first place team in the NL West would barely be over .500? Well the Giants are 48-41 and in fourth place, 3 1/2 games back of the Padres. The NL West is back! The saggy boobs now firmly reside in the NL Central.
Angels 8, Mariners 3: Joel Pineiro continued his sizzling productivity, getting his 10th win after going seven and giving up three. He’s 6-0 with a 2.32 ERA in his last seven starts. What a pimp. Not so fortunate was Doug Fister, who took one up the tailpipe to the tune of 12 hits and six earned runs.
