Manhattan Strip Clubs: When Police Shoot And Kill Unarmed Men

2003: While surrendering on his knees in front of four Las Vegas police officers, Orlando Barlow is shot with an assault rifle by officer Brian Hartman from 50 feet away. Hartman argued that he feared Barlow was feigning surrender and about to grab a gun. Barlow was unarmed; a  jury ruled the fatal shooting was “excusable.” Hartman later resigned from the force a month before a federal probe uncovered that he and other officers printed T-Shirts labeled ”BDRT” which stood for “Baby’s Daddy Removal Team” and “Big Dogs Run Together.” The probe also found that Hartman and other officers had used excessive force during two separate investigations and lied about it. Their punishment: the possibility of losing their jobs, The Las Vegas Sun reports.
2006:  Just hours before his wedding, 23-year-old Sean Bell leaves the strip club hosting his bachelor party, jumps into a car with two friends, and is killed when police fire 50 shots into his vehicle, wounding his friends. Police say they opened fire after Bell rammed his car into an unmarked police van filled with plainclothes officers. …

Manhattan Strip Clubs: Widow Claims NY Tabloids Defamed Her

… NEWARK (CN) – The widow of boxing champ Arturo Gatti claims The New York Daily News, The New York Post and Maxim Magazine defamed her by calling her a stripper who was suspected of killing her husband. Amanda Carine Barbosa Rodrigues says she was never a stripper, and her husband died by his own hand while vacationing with her in Brazil.

Rodrigues’ says the Daily News reported that she met her husband-to-be “while she danced at a club in Brazil,” but reported in other articles that they met at “a gentleman’s club in Weehawken, N.J.” and at “a New Jersey Strip Club.”

She claims Maxim Magazine falsely reported that she was a stripper in March 2010, with a detailed – and fictitious – story of her courtship with her late husband.

Manhattan Strip Clubs: Trivalley Dispatch > Top Stories

New York City seems to be the place where most of today’s bed-bug action is, which would be fine if it only afflicted those people who move there and two weeks later act like you’re a rube for not.
But bed bugs are equal-opportunity parasites: They don’t care about your personality or your income or how attractive you are, and with luck they don’t care if you’ve ever written about them, either.
New York is hardly the only city affected. A recent check of www.bedbugregistry.com, a site where people can post about where they’ve encountered bed bugs and where bed bugs can post about where they’ve encountered people, shows recent bed-bug appearances everywhere from Los Angeles to Warrensville, Ohio.
And once you get bed bugs, you can carry them wherever you go, except for the strip clubs in Northwest Indiana, which depress even them.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Cover Model Spitzer Graces min’s ‘Most Intriguing & Top-Selling Magazine Covers’

But even with last week’s shocker, Spitzer has never been a Time cover, and, unlike Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, we believe he never was in a TNY cover drawing through the March 17 issue. Yet after he was elected governor by landslide in November 2006, Spitzer and wife Silda Wall appeared together on the Winter 2006-2007 cover of 02138, the magazine about Harvard University alumni launched that October by The Atlantic/National Journal chairman David Bradley. Back then, the interpretation was that the Spitzers were among the Harvard-Harvard couples to “earn high honors in chemistry.” Who then at Time/TNY/02138 or anywhere could ever have imagined what happened last Monday (March 10), when Spitzer admitted soliciting a prostitute that led to his resignation two days later? —appeared in min March 2008

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: U.S. v. BLAND

Bland cites a number of cases to support his argument that an agreement is a necessary element of patronizing a prostitute, but these cases are easily distinguishable. Four of these cases, People v. Polianskaia, 730 N.Y.S.2d 685 (N.Y.C. Crim. Ct. 2001), People v. A.M., No. 2001CN001284, 2001 WL 1117455 (N.Y.C. Crim. Ct. July 31, 2001), People v. A.S., 685 N.Y.S.2d 573 (N.Y.C. Crim. Ct. 1998), and People v. Hilo, 791 N.Y.S.2d 872 (Table) (N.Y. Sup. App. Term 2004), deal with the crime of prostitution, N.Y. Penal L. § 230.00, not the crime patronizing a prostitute for which Bland was arrested. In two other cases, People v. Richardson, No. 2001KN057369, 2002 WL 977167 (N.Y.C. Crim. Ct. Apr. 5, 2002), and People v. Bah, 688 N.Y.S.2d 397 (N.Y.C. Crim. Ct. 1999), the charging documents specified that the defendant had made an agreement to engage in sexual conduct for a fee, and the prosecutions were apparently brought under § 230.02(1)(b), which calls for an agreement, and not under § 230.02(1)(c), wh …

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: West New York police report making three more prostitution-related arrests

On Friday in West New York, town police netted three more prostitution-related arrests, bringing the total to 58 since Dec. 31, as reported by The Jersey Journal’s Karina Arrue in today’s editions.
An undercover officer called the number in an ad and arranged to meet the woman at an undisclosed location, police said. Darcy Christian, 22, of Newark, the alleged prostitute, arrived at the location at 5 p.m. in a car along with Kassiem Al-Saffah, 30, of Fort Washington, Md., and Darshel Hall, 22, of Rahway, police said.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Is Piers Morgan the new face of CNN prime time? Really?

Is Piers Morgan the new face of CNN prime time? Really?
According to the Los Angeles Times, America’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan just overcame a major hurdle to taking over Larry King’s prime 9 p.m. real estate at CNN, finalizing a contract with the Peacock Network allowing him to appear on the cable newschannel while also working on the unscripted talent show.
This would seem to clear the way for CNN to make one of the oddest hiring choices I’ve seen — and I say this a few weeks after they hired an ex-politician kicked out of the New York governor’s mansion for hiring prostitutes.
But it also jibes with something I heard from a high-powered TV executive not long ago, who was confident Morgan would get the job — rumor was, people were already being interviewed for production jobs — and cautioned against underestimating the former tabloid newspaper editor.

Manhattan Strip Clubs: License to trill: The reinvention of Robert Davi

We stood in the lobby of the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale Friday morning, contemplating this problem. Davi was wearing black boots, baggy black slacks, and a loose, silky shirt—black—with three or four buttons unbuttoned. He is a tall, fleshy, slightly hulking man who, depending on whether you believe Wikipedia or IMDB, is either 57 or 59 years old.
Davi has played the bad guy in enough movies for his pockmarked face, if not his name, to be instantly recognizable. He was the drug lord of the Republic of Isthmus in the 1989 James Bond film License to Kill, a singing criminal in The Goonies, a strip club manager in Showgirls. He was an F.B.I. agent in both Die Hard and the NBC show “Profiler.” Two years ago, he branched into writing and directing, with a dull caper called The Dukes about a has-been (played by Robert Davi) trying to recapture a lost singing career.
