Burck is no ordinary busker. His career has grown leaps and sounds since he branded himself about 10 years ago as the Naked Cowboy.
Now, he has a manager and his Naked Cowboy Enterprises focuses on licensing stuff from Naked Cowboy oysters to Naked Cowboy merchandising to image licensing.
The real thing: The Naked Cowboy playing in Times Square in New York City last month.
And there is always hope to develop a TV show or to become a screen actor, said Todd Rubenstein, who has been Burcks manager since 2007.
It is now basically about staying focused on building the brand and growing its value, he said in an e-mail.
Which explains why former stripper Sandy Kane got a a cease-and-desist letter when she persisted in busking at Times Square wearing only a bikini and a cowboy hat. It was, apparently, an infringement of the Naked Cowboy trademark.

Gangster, 93, convicted of racketeering conspiracy
By TOM HAYS (AP) – 2 hours ago
NEW YORK — An elderly gangster who struggled to stay awake while his turncoat son testified against him at his racketeering trial was convicted Wednesday of charges that he shook down New York strip clubs and a pizzeria.
A jury in Brooklyn federal court found 93-year-old John “Sonny” Franzese — the reputed underboss of the Colombo organized crime family and one-time acquaintance of Frank Sinatra — and three co-defendants guilty on its fifth day of deliberations.
Franzese, who had been out on bail, was jailed after the verdict was announced. Prosecutors say he faces up to 20 years in prison.
At trial, prosecutors used John Franzese Jr., a former Colombo associate-turned-paid informant, to help convince jurors that his father’s frail appearance was deceiving. The defendant briefly dozed off on the first of his son’s three days on the witness stand.

New York City seems to be the place where most of today’s bed-bug action is, which would be fine if it only afflicted those people who move there and two weeks later act like you’re a rube for not.
But bed bugs are equal-opportunity parasites: They don’t care about your personality or your income or how attractive you are, and with luck they don’t care if you’ve ever written about them, either.
New York is hardly the only city affected. A recent check of www.bedbugregistry.com, a site where people can post about where they’ve encountered bed bugs and where bed bugs can post about where they’ve encountered people, shows recent bed-bug appearances everywhere from Los Angeles to Warrensville, Ohio.
And once you get bed bugs, you can carry them wherever you go, except for the strip clubs in Northwest Indiana, which depress even them.

Police: Priest’s Secret Sex Life Cost Adoring Parishioners more than $1 Million
Jul 7th, 2010 11:51 AM
NEW HAVEN, Conn.—A Catholic priest who was adored by his parishioners partly because he lived an exemplary—and Spartan—life has been arrested for embezzling about $1.3 million from his poor parish. According to police investigators, the Rev. Kevin J. Gray spent the money over seven years on a lavish secret life that included male escorts, strip clubs, fancy restaurants, posh hotels and expensive clothing.
On the surface, Gray reportedly eschewed most conveniences of modern life. With a salary of less than $28,000 a year, he did not own a car and walked to mass from another parish so a charity organization could use the rectory at his church. Parishioners especially admired the way Father Gray assisted immigrants, and most believed the priest suffered from colon cancer.

… Right now it’s very, very difficult to distinguish between places that are and aren’t a problem,” he said. “It’s even more difficult to do something about it.”
The S.L.A. could still revoke licenses for fewer than six serious incidents in 60 days, and the bars could still operate with more than six less-severe complaints.
And nightlife operators no longer would have to be directly culpable for infractions in order for a police referral to the S.L.A. to put a mark on their record.
“We think it’s really good legislation,” said Bill Crowley, an S.L.A. spokesperson.
Currently, police must refer complaints to the S.L.A. in order for a nightspot to be fined, to have its license revoked or to incur other penalties. But police are only required to report serious offenses, such as gambling, prostitution and violent crimes.
