Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Latest “Twilight Saga” installment to eclipse “The Last Airbender”

Still, if word gets out that this film is the stinker it sounds like, rather than the franchise-starter it’s supposed to be, it could do very disappointing business. With a $145 million budget, that’s not good tidings for the director or the studio. On the other hand, fans of the animated series could pull the film towards a solid, but certainly hugely distant, second. In any case, it seems clear that the massive and assuredly leggy success of “Toy Story 3″ will be nipping at its heels. One thing is certain: the film originally titled “Avatar: The Last Airbender” will not be emulating its former namesake commercially over the long haul.
Among other limited releases this week, we have “Love Ranch,” which is the first film starring Helen Mirren to be directed by her husband, Taylor Hackford (”Ray,” “An Officer and a Gentleman”). Sadly, it’s getting very bad reviews. That is not good for a limited release, even if Joe Pesci is also in the cast. Amazing that a film about murder and legalized prostitution in Nevada is considered dull, but making movies is an uncertain business. Right?

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Brooklyn’s Finest

With so much plot happening, the lead actors tend to draw on variations of their established personas, but provide fresh twists. Snipes, a fine actor who has spent the last decade or so languishing in direct-to-video releases, provides confirmation that a good actor just needs a decent role and a director who’ll give him a shot. He also lucks out by having Cheadle as his scene partner; predictably, Cheadle is flat-out terrific, understanding that the key to his role is to underplay, and then choose just the right moment to boil over. Gere’s noticeable lack of an accent is a bit troubling (though he’s never been much of a dialectician), but his work here is powerful, predictably a tough and tender scene with his go-to call girl (ably played by Shannon Kane). Gere plays him as lost and lonely, but, importantly, not clueless. Hawke’s is the weakest performance of the bunch; he has his moments, but comes off a little forced early on (particularly his hackneyed scene at confess …

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: INSIDE RUSSIA’S SPY SCHOOLS

For fellow spy Mikhail Semenko, a stylish man in his late 20s who was also arrested in the sweep, that meant designer clothes, a  mercedes S500 and a beautiful brunette Russian girlfriend. People dont just work for the SVR for money and a career, says Olga Kryshtanovskaya, sociologist at Russias Academy of Sciences.
There are many other motives, including education, patriotism and the romantic and heroic portrayal of intelligence officers in films and novels. Prof Haynes says: Russian foreign intelligence has always used women, though increasingly in recent years. Even in the Thirties and Forties they had women field officers, usually paired with a man, living as husband and wife.
Preobrazhensky reveals: During the Soviet era all the prostitutes working with foreign men were recruited as KGB agents and all were very beautiful. They couldnt have sex with foreigners without working as KGB operatives, passing on any information they picked up.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Let’s keep on open mind on closing streets: They might bring new life to dull …

Last year, Crandell wrote: “I’ve lived in Lakeview for six years, and while I love it, I’ve always felt that it’s missing a quality public gathering space….Most of the sidewalks are too narrow and there aren’t places to sit. I grew up near Annapolis, Md., which has a harbor with a plaza where people would hang out to talk, eat ice cream, drink coffee, etc. And Lakeview alone is almost three times the size of Annapolis, so we should be able to support a place like that.”
His idea, inspired by Kempf Plaza, is to turn Wilton Avenue, a small north-south street just east of the freshly-renovated Belmont CTA station, into a cul-de-sac with a public plaza at the cul-de-sac’s south end, facing Belmont. He even did a crude rendering (left) on his blog, imagining the plaza with a fountain and greenery—and new, street-shaping buildings on what is now a vacant lot next to the Belmont station.
But some Wilton residents are concerned that the proposed plaza would encourage loitering. One, 39-year-old Todd Shockley, told me he’s seen “transvestite prostitutes” on the street. He also worried that the change would cut down on the supply of curbside parking.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Sisters tortured in NY hotel room

Sisters tortured in N.Y. hotel room
By GORDON DRITSCHILO RUTLAND HERALD – Published: July 2, 2010
PAWLET — Police in New York say two sisters from Pawlet were tortured after responding to an advertisement on an escort service website.
Lt. Robert Winn of the Colonie, N.Y., Police Department said the women, who are in their early- to mid-20s, said they did not realize they were dealing with a front for a New York City-based prostitution operation when they responded to the ad on the now apparently defunct secretsxxx.com website.
“The girls told us that once they got down there and realized it was illegal activities, they tried to separate themselves from it,” Winn said Thursday.
The Albany Times-Union reported that two brothers, Colby Sylvain, 31, of Bayonne, N.J. and Herby Sylvain, 28, of Brooklyn, N.Y., were arraigned in Albany County Court Tuesday on eight charges stemming from the February incident, including first-degree robbery and burglary, second-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment and grand larceny.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: ‘Thread’ adds diverse flair

The Scissor Sisters have sloughed off some of their signature camp style and roughed up their edges on the new record “Night Work.”
Equal parts “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Bad Romance,” the new record is dramatic, danceable and definitively cool. The title track is a sonic frappé of electro-dance pop and covert sexual innuendo — “Night Work” being a subtle euphemism for male prostitution — set to quickly paced, expertly executed distorted guitar riffs.
The smutty charge gets stronger and more overt with tracks like “Whole New Way” and “Harder You Get”: Those songs are fit to soundtrack your friendly neighborhood adult entertainment store. Classic Scissor Sisters panache prevails in songs like “Something Like This,” a syrupy sweet dance hit sharper and more sophisticated than many performed by the average pop darling — think Ke$ha with talent.
