Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Philosophy 101 With Liz Smith: The Theoretical Future of General McChrystal

… the firing of General McChrystal) had its flaws. But the exposure ethos, with its relentless emphasis on destroying privacy and exposing impurities, has chased good people from public life, undermined public faith in institutions and elevated the trivial over the important.”
So wrote David Brooks in The New York Times. Still, the General’s macho drinking-fueled hangout with his gossipy boys probably needed exposure.
And in the matter of ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer snagging a
job as a correspondent-commentator, I must ask: Do his detractors intend that Spitzer never be allowed to work again, that his considerable intelligence and “smarts” should be wasted on the desert air? It seems to me Spitzer, on the verge of a brilliant career in government, paid his price after his exposure as a dedicated user of prostitutes. He had to give up his job running New York State and he had to suffer the embarrassment and heartbreak of his wonderful wife and daughters.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: "Bethenny Getting Married": From bridezilla to brand

… The honesty. I think it’s the one thing I really take pride in,” she adds. And she’s right. After all, planning a wedding in real life is mind-numblingly boring, even for the bride. Watching someone else plan a wedding should, by all rights, be about as enjoyable and entertaining as having your toenails ripped off one by one. But Bethenny takes every experience – from picking out a location to deciding on a hairstyle for the big day – into a carnival of caustic delights. When she’s forced to choose a last-minute skimpy dress for her bridal shower because the original dress doesn’t fit anymore thanks to her rapidly expanding belly, she quips, “I’m now a pregnant sequined prostitute going to my own bridal shower.” She adds, “If I had a tampon in, the string would be longer than this dress.”

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Helen Reddy: Young Girls Dress Like Whores Thanks To Madonna

I am no prude, I’m down with nude beaches and nude resorts, but Helen Reddy has a valid point. Madonna and her progeny (Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga) have equated dressing like a skank with women’s empowerment.
How does Miley Cyrus who is a couple of months shy of 18 express her maturity and growth as a woman and as an artist? Does she hunker down at the studio, produce her own record, and write her own material? The pop tart demonstrates her independence and worth as a woman by singing racy lyrics and making sure that her skin-tight pants prominently feature her cameltoe.
There is nothing courageous or avant garde about a female celeb dressing like a $10 prostitute. Come on bimbos, show a little bit of originality and creativity, show us that you are a powerful and independent women by doing something other than dressing like a skank.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Forging a Festival for Black Playwrights

Forging a Festival for Black Playwrights
Published: July 2, 2010
Does the world need another festival for emerging playwrights?
Lynn Nottage
, above, answered with an emphatic yes this week by hosting a fund-raiser in her Brooklyn home to benefit the establishment of the New Black Fest, a festival aiming to showcase innovative work by and about black people from around the world. Its organizers and supporters are busy raising money and seeking out advisers in time for an autumn inaugural festival, which would include readings and panel discussions. “This is not about separation, it’s about inclusion,” said Ms. Nottage, who won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in drama for “Ruined,” about women in a Congolese brothel. “It’s about inviting people who don’t get access.”
Katori Hall
(of the Broadway-bound play “The Mountaintop”) and

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’ opens in Greenwich with local talent

Shakespeare on the Sound’s artistic director, Joanna Settle, called Salame last November and offered her the role of Bianca.
While Salame had performed in one of the bard’s plays at school, and placed in the last few years at the annual Shakespeare Competition, her experience in “Othello” has taken her further.
“This is obviously a lot more challenging because the degree of professionalism is much higher,” said Salame, who will study acting at New York University come the fall. “It really has pushed me to be better and be as good as I can.”
Salame met with a voice and speech coach for training, to help her dig into the language and find her character’s intention.
Bianca, explained Salame, is a prostitute who is in love with Cassio, and Iago uses her as a pawn to set off Othello’s jealousy.

Manhattan Strip Clubs: L’Oreal Butler Sarkozy Anna Nicole Smith Reveal Root of World Hunger

The L’Oreal case has many similarities to the Anna Nicole Smith Marshall case Marshall v Marshall in which 22 year old stripper and Playboy Playmate of the Year Anna Nicole Smith sued the estate of her 109 year old husband, oil magnate J. Howard Marshall who completely cut her out of his will and his billion dollar fortune.

Manhattan Strip Clubs: Oakland’s Joshua Braff’s explores two closed worlds in ‘Peep Show’

snapping photographs of strippers and hustlers, and helping his father keep the business as kosher as possible.
It is amid this chaos and camera clicking that David must find his way in relationships. He works through his feelings for a Hasidic girl, and must come to accept his sister’s and mother’s choice to become Hasidic.
As an homage to his protagonist, Braff included black and white photographs in the book that capture the mood of the era. The images are simple yet arresting: The backs of three Hasidic men in black hats and payot, the commonly worn sidelocks, walking down a bustling city street. A storefront filled with exotic wigs. An anti-pornography rally.

“Peep Show,” inspired by a true story, draws parallels between the closed worlds of strip clubs and Hasidic Jews. First, all the women wear wigs. Also, just as Hasidics peep through the mechitzah, the partition that separates the sexes, the patrons of the Arbus adult theater do peeping of their own. Lastly, people in both worlds are judged hastily by those on the outside.

A study indicates that home births may be best for the mother because she is less likely to have medical intervention–from painkilling drugs to forceps to a Caesarean section–but is riskier for the baby, reported The Guardian July 1. The research shows that home births carry three times the risk that her baby will die. The study, published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, analyzed studies in the United States and Europe, looking at a total of 342,056 planned home births and 207,551 planned hospital births.
A New York City woman was charged with sex trafficking, promoting prostitution and conspiracy, reported the New York Daily News June 29. Jin Hua Cui, 44, is said to have coerced young Korean women applying for jobs as nail salon attendants into prostitution. After answering help wanted ads in Korean language newspapers, applicants were threatened with either embarrassment or violence by Chinese gangs if they did not comply. The defendant pleaded not guilty and is currently awaiting trial on $10,000 bail.
