Manhattan Adult Entertainment: NY Police: Pawlet sisters beaten, tortured

N.Y. Police: Pawlet sisters beaten, tortured
Police in New York say two sisters from Pawlet were tortured after responding to an advertisement on an escort service website.
Lt. Robert Winn of the Colonie, N.Y., Police Department said the women, who are in their early to mid-20s, said they did not to realize they were dealing with a front for a New York City-based prostitution operation when they responded to the ad on the now apparently defunct secretsxxx.com website.
“The girls told us that once they got down there and realized it was illegal activities, they tried to separate themselves from it,” Winn said Thursday.
The Albany Times-Union reported that two brothers, Colby Sylvain, 31, of Bayonne, N.J. and Herby Sylvain, 28, of Brooklyn, N.Y., were arraigned in Albany County Court Tuesday on eight charges stemming from the February incident, including first-degree robbery and burglary, second-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment and grand larceny.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Ostrow: Bring on Katie Couric to enliven Larry King’s gig

Couric’s contract expires next year. Talk of a sharing agreement across two networks — as Anderson Cooper and Christiane Amanpour had with CBS and CNN — has fueled further speculation. Might Couric find a place within CBS to produce occasional specials, perhaps under her own production company, while taking on the prime-time talk show on CNN?
The interviewing gig would showcase Couric’s talent for incisive questioning, her obvious clever charm and her ability to get people to talk. Two networks footing the bill would allow her to keep her $15 million salary intact.
The much-mentioned “America’s Got Talent” judge Piers Morgan, a former British newspaper editor, could be a contender, if CNN doesn’t favor King’s personal favorite, Ryan Secrest, for the post.
Ryan Secrest? Really?
Anything is possible. Witness CNN’s recent hiring of Eliot Spitzer, the disgraced former governor of New York who admitted to visiting a prostitute, to host a show preceding King’s, opposite conservative columnist Kathleen Parker.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Proposed Chatham law sets regulations for adult establishments

CHATHAM – Not that they’re flocking to town any time soon, but borough officials Monday night introduced an ordinance designed to control where, when,  and how adult entertainment, and tattoo and body piercing establishments can operate.Officials expect to adopt the ordinance following a public hearing set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 12.Councilman Bruce Harris, the council’s Planning Board liaison, said the measure, actually an overlay to current land development regulations, initially focused on tattoo parlors, but then was broadened to include the other operations.By law, a municipality cannot bar adult services from seeking to set up shop.  But, said Harris, “we can limit them to an area.”

In addition, the adult entertainment businesses will require a buffer of at least 10 feet wide and six feet high required around its perimeter, with two rows of evergreen plantings installed “to impede the view of the interior of the premises.”

Manhattan Strip Clubs: Bold idea: Give King three rein

… For three years — or as long as you allow Mike D’Antoni to coach the team — imagine how much fun you will have playing in his madcap offensive system.
“That first year you wouldn’t even have to deliver a championship, because that first year will be a honeymoon year. There actually will be more pressure on you in Cleveland, which thought last year was the year.
“I heard some radio talk recently about your alleged aversion to Tabloid Central here. I trust you’ve chatted with A-Rod about this, because the two of you count Warren Buffett among your filthy-rich friends. A-Rod wasn’t Jeter, wasn’t Mr. October, wasn’t wearing a shirt in Central Park, wasn’t steroid-free, wasn’t happy on the road without a stripper — and had his life plastered all over the New York Post, front page and backpage.

Manhattan Strip Clubs: Oakland’s Joshua Braff’s explores two closed worlds in ‘Peep Show’

snapping photographs of strippers and hustlers, and helping his father keep the business as kosher as possible.
It is amid this chaos and camera clicking that David must find his way in relationships. He works through his feelings for a Hasidic girl, and must come to accept his sister’s and mother’s choice to become Hasidic.
As an homage to his protagonist, Braff included black and white photographs in the book that capture the mood of the era. The images are simple yet arresting: The backs of three Hasidic men in black hats and payot, the commonly worn sidelocks, walking down a bustling city street. A storefront filled with exotic wigs. An anti-pornography rally.

“Peep Show,” inspired by a true story, draws parallels between the closed worlds of strip clubs and Hasidic Jews. First, all the women wear wigs. Also, just as Hasidic men peep through the mechitzah, the partition that separates them from women in gatherings, the patrons of the Arbus adult theater do peeping of their own. Lastly, people in both worlds are judged hastily by those on the outside.

Manhattan Strip Clubs: Simms caught smoking?

Chris Simms, the former Buc, finds himself in some serious trouble. The 29 year old back up for the Tennessee Titans was arrested today and charged with smoking marijuana. Reports claim he admitted to the police had smoked in his car, his eyes were red, and speech was slurred.
Simms was released today and will have to appear in trial on a later date. As Simms left the court house today though, he claimed that this was all wrong and that the police had the wrong story, the police did not have any statement on this matter. Simms could face up to a year in jail because of this offense and the Titans may even take disciplinary action against him. It has not been a good off season for the Titan quarterbacks. Vince Young was involved with a fight at a strip club earlier this year; this case is not over yet.
