… Right now it’s very, very difficult to distinguish between places that are and aren’t a problem. It’s even more difficult to do something about it,” said Squadron.
The S.L.A. could still terminate licenses for less than six highly reprehensible incidents in 60 days, and the bars may still operate with more than six less-severe complaints.
And nightlife operators no longer have to be directly culpable for infractions in order for a police referral to the S.L.A. to put a scratch on their record.
“We think it’s really good legislation,” said Bill Crowley, spokesperson for the S.L.A.
An officer must refer complaints to the S.L.A. for a nightspot to be fined, to have their license revoked or to incur other penalties, but police are only required to report serious offenses, such as gambling, prostitution and violent crimes.

Ms. Davis, who ran a prostitution ring that she claims supplied former Governor Eliot Spitzer with call girls, is now herself running for governor on a platform of marijuana, gambling and prostitution legalization, and the recognition of gay marriage.
“We kind of hit a nice little roadblock there,” Ms. Davis said.
Her adviser, Roger Stone, said that now, as far as party names are concerned, they’re back to square one.
…
“…[Ms. Davis'] platform focused primarily on legalizing marijuana, legalizing gambling, and legalizing prostitution,” Mr. Collison continued. “None of these issues are areas where the Reform Party focuses. Instead we focus on fiscal responsibility, creating jobs (especially in manufacturing and small businesses), and more limited Federal Government. We do not take a left or right position on what we consider ‘values issues like wholesale drug legalization.”

President Obama should do more than sack General McChrystal for insubordination. He should have intelligent, culturally imaginative and well-informed people, free of the arrogance that seems to afflict most Americans, figure out an Afghan strategy that actually takes the welfare of Afghans seriously. While the US spends billions of dollars a year enriching the leaders of its war industries, children are starving on the streets of Kabul and young boys, to save their families from starvation, are selling themselves as male prostitutes to the Afghan warlords whom Uncle Sam has installed to run the country, the mineral wealth of which is why they are there. Meanwhile, we are told that western forces are there to increase the security of western nations and to save Afghans from the excesses of the Taliban. Mr President, if you believe that, you are a fool. But you are not a fool. Who will save the Afghans from the excesses of the American’s and their allies? That is the question we should be asking.

Bell’s fiancée, Nicole Paultre-Bell, and his two friends who were wounded in the shooting, Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield, are awaiting a July 26 settlement conference in the wrongful death suit. Their attorneys, Sanford Rubenstein and Michael Hardy, said the counterclaim would not hold up the settlement since it was filed after the one-year statute of limitations stemming from the incident and the creation of Bell’s estate.
“We intend to request that this counterclaim is withdrawn,” Rubenstein said Monday
Bell, Guzman and Benefield were celebrating at Bell’s bachelor party at the Kalua Cabaret in Jamaica, which at the time was being investigated by undercover police for suspected prostitution and drug operations. Bell got into an argument outside the club and one of the officers said he heard someone say they were going to get a gun.

Lottery spokeswoman Jennifer Givner said although the agency will be evaluating bids for the contract, it was Paterson and state legislators who drafted the bidding process.
She said the process “follows most standard protocols” for state bidding contracts and is consistent with other projects.
“The process was intentionally structured to include the Lottery’s most aggressive MWBE employment targets ever. The extra scoring opportunity for high levels of MWBE participation by bidders and the inclusion of community members in the public bidders’ conference are evidence of the Lottery’s strong commitment to MWBE businesses, minority employment and conducting a transparent and fair bid process,” Givner said.
The Rev. Charles Norris, of the Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church in Jamaica, said southeast Queens would be subject to noise, violent crime, gambling addiction, prostitution and illegal guns as a result of the project.

The band came to the attention of Clinton, who remembered Shider and, in 1971, went into the studio to produce what should have been its debut album. By this time Clinton had formed Funkadelic and, on albums such as Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow and Maggot Brain, begun to formulate a wild fusion of soul and rock music on songs about mind-expanding drugs, sexual liberation and political freedom.
Two of the tracks recorded with Shider and Mosson appeared as a 1971 single, but the album was shelved when Shider and Mosson joined Funkadelic in 1972, in a line-up that also included Bootsy Collins from James Brown’s backing band, the JBs.
The first Funkadelic album on which Shider played was 1972’s America Eats its Young, a savage satire on American mores. Cosmic Slop the following year found Shider playing an expanded role as a songwriter and lead singer on the title track, about a single mother forced to resort to prostitution to support her five children.

The Scissor Sisters have sloughed off some of their signature camp style and roughed up their edges on the new record “Night Work.”
Equal parts “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Bad Romance,” the new record is dramatic, danceable and definitively cool. The title track is a sonic frappe of electro-dance pop and covert sexual innuendo — “Night Work” being a subtle euphemism for male prostitution — set to quickly paced, expertly executed distorted guitar riffs.
The smutty charge gets stronger and more overt with tracks like “Whole New Way” and “Harder You Get”: Those songs are fit to soundtrack your friendly neighbourhood adult entertainment store. Classic Scissor Sisters panache prevails in songs like “Something Like This,” a syrupy sweet dance hit sharper and more sophisticated than many performed by the average pop darling — think Ke$ha with talent.
