Atom Egoyan rekindles his lurking soft-core desires with a tawdry script by Eric Cressida Wilson, whose 2002 film Secretary transcended a cultural movement of sexual identity. Audiences will have no such luck with this formulaic suspense picture about sexual deception.
Julianne Moore’s Catherine Stewart is a successful Toronto doctor and wife to her well-liked college-professor husband David (Liam Neeson), who is loyal but also an inveterate flirt. David’s failure to make it back to the couple’s palatial modern home in time for his “surprise” birthday party sets Catherine’s teeth on edge, believing that he’s carrying on an affair with one of his students.
Catherine makes the mistake of a lifetime when she hires local call girl Chloe (Amanda Seyfried) in an effort to discover if her husband can be provoked into cheating. Wilson’s script sets up Chloe as the film’s protagonist-apparent but backpedals around in a game of musical chairs that shifts focus among the hooker, the couple and even their romantically inclined teenaged son Michael (Max Thieriot).

New York has been buffeted by what The Wall Street Journal calls “a spree of mischief” among the state’s politicians, including “a rare trifecta of disgrace” in just one week.
David Paterson, who became governor when predecessor Eliot Spitzer resigned in disgrace, is in a tangle of interlocking scandals.
Rep. Charles Rangel was forced to step down as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee after being criticized in an ethics committee report. And another New York congressman, Eric Massa, resigned after allegations of sexual harassment were lodged against him.
The “rare trifecta” caps several years of recurring political scandal, including Spitzer’s resignation for his involvement with prostitutes and a state assemblyman’s imprisonment for stealing Little League funds. Another state legislator being caught taking bribes.

… Chloe’: Egoyan’s latest is ‘Fatal Attraction’ meets ‘Poison Ivy’
By Jeff Simon, The Buffalo News, N.Y.
Mar. 26–There is a supposedly erotic moment in Atom Egoyan’s ridiculous but entertaining “Chloe” that elicited a couple of spontaneous and unintentional guffaws at the critic’s screening. I wouldn’t dream of spoiling it for you, so let’s just say it involves shoes and leave it at that.
Chloe Three stars (Out of four) Julianne Moore, Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried star in Atom Egoyan film about a disturbed young prostitute who wreaks havoc on an upscale family in Toronto. 96 minutes. Rated R for language and a good deal of nudity and sex.

Crow pits safety against modernisation and cares not about the disruption to the public. He may well have a point, but he cares even less if he harms a Labour government. But remember, this is a man who tried to enter the House of Commons with a sword in his bag. It was an ornamental one, a gift from the South Korean rail union.
His politics now seem to resemble an ornamental sword. They may be admired as antique, but have no actual use.
Geoff Hoon, what is the point of you? Who advised you to go on the radio to explain why you and your colleagues would prostitute yourselves? Now you are sorry, as you got caught for ‘showing off’, as you call it. I wish I was shocked by such shamelessness but ever since you stood up in the House and defended cluster bombs it has been clear there’s little you won’t do. What I don’t understand is why companies need the likes of you and Byers. Is it for your sparkle and charisma? Or is what’s for sale your unremitting ability to defend the indefensible?

A jewel in the crown of clubland — and one of the first to open in the outpost of West Chelsea after Bungalow 8 and Marquee — Cain threw its final bash Wednesday night for friends, family and Black AmEx card holders who spent their money and youth on its dance floor.
“It had its time,” said Cain’s owner, Jamie Mulholland, who began as a bartender at Lotus and now owns a satellite of Cain in the Bahamas along with other clubs.
“Its obviously a little bit sad — it was our first venue and one close to our heart, but nothing can last forever and you just have to embrace that,” he said.
When he first leased the space it was a taxi garage with a dripping ceiling and no plumbing in a commercial district of Chelsea frequented by freaks and prostitutes.

The sex scandals that mushroomed across Europe and America have shaken the Catholic Church as never before. Having felt the pinch, a leading Cardinal has called for ‘housecleaning’ as a measure of damage limitation. It will be a monumental task for an institute with such a highly-centred hierarchy to embark on the ambitious goal.
Perhaps, they can take some measures at ground level. It is highly likely that those who commit these crimes are the priests who land in the priesthood due to economic reasons rather than those of spiritual. If they have suffered abuse at the hand of their superiors, there is a great chance of them following suit – and then handing down the trend to the next generation.
The easiest pick-up joint for this practice is soliciting sex in the confessional despite the existence of a canonical ban; up until it is subject to the watchful eye of the trustworthy, the issue is going to damage the church for a very long time indeed, in an irreparable manner, which is really sad.

… Chloe,” which opened Friday, represents a step into the mainstream for the cerebral Canadian filmmaker. Egoyan, 50, has earned numerous international honors but not much commercial success. Born in Cairo of Armenian descent and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Egoyan often explores issues of alienation and identity. Those fixations add intellectual heft to “Chloe,” which might have been a “Fatal Attraction” retread in other hands.
During a recent Minneapolis visit, Egoyan said he persuaded his cast to sign on for a sexually charged thriller by describing it simply as a drama. “This is the story of a marriage,” he said. “Our erotic lives are an essential part of who we are, and the erotic life of this couple has disappeared. Julianne Moore’s character hires a prostitute rather than a detective to investigate her husband because she needs to re-create the erotic image of who this man is. It also goes into the competing fantasies these women have of who the other might be. That makes for very interesting drama.

Battle lines were drawn for the Women’s bill ensuring 1/3rd reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The Kill-Bill was passed in Rajya Sabha amidst high drama. The house recorded a historic vote in its favour; Ms Mamata Banerjee mysteriously abstained from voting. But for me the original women’s Bill will always be Bill Clinton.
Katherine Bigelow made history after becoming the first woman to win an academy award for best director. Uma Thurman made history too, albeit of a different kind. Her latest movie “Motherhood” fetched only one viewer in London. It grossed a princely amount of 9 pounds.
A hot new profession is on the block. All you need to do is renounce the world publicly (what you do privately is entirely your business), sport long hair/beard/long flowing robes, claim to have performed a few miracles, get some sleazy politicos as your devotees (that shouldn’t be too hard) and voila you have a quick rich formula. You can grab land, run a prostitution racket and even get your devotees killed in a stampede. God will forgive all your sins.
