The New York Times, run by scion Arthur “Pinch” Sulzberger, Jr., doesn’t have deep pockets. Like most newspapers around the globe it’s been struggling for the past several years amid a slump in advertising and changing readership habits.
“It’s very hard for me to understand why it makes sense to invest heavily in New York unless it’s to try to make life miserable for the New York Times,” said Alex Jones, a veteran Times reporter who is now a professor at Harvard University. “My guess is he’s going to offer ads at a reduced rate. News Corp. can afford to do that and the Times can’t.”
Mr. Murdoch already has been engaged in a money-losing newspaper battle for years here, pitting his scrappy New York Post against rival tabloid the New York Daily News. The Post, best known for its Page 6 gossip and clever headlines such as “Headless Body Found in Topless Bar,” is said to be bleeding red ink, as much as US$70-million a year.

With the potentially groundbreaking elevation of Kathleen Sullivan this morning, and the oh-so-tasteful prostitution and stripper jokes in Non-Sequiturs, it’s kind of been a female-focused day here at ATL.
It’s been a good day for gender equality, but let’s not forget that progress can be an incremental proposition. The City Bar of New York is putting on a little event for the ladies and — well — why don’t you be the judge?

City Island, a comedy set in the quaint, Bronx fishing village is about a family who can’t seem to tell each other the truth. Vince Rizzo (Andy García) is a corrections officer and a father of two (three, if you count his long-lost, ex-con son, played by Steven Strait) who secretly runs off to acting class and tells his wife (Julianna Margulies) he’s playing poker. She thinks he’s having an affair. Oh, and their daughter’s a stripper. Whee!
“Coming from my own dysfunctional family it’s kind of great to see another one,” designer Vera Wang, wearing a black feather skirt and a plunging-necklined top of her own design, told the Transom duromg the film’s premiere last night at the Director’s Guild of America on 57th Street.
Mr. García said that when it comes to his own family, he’s “always had a philosophy with being straightforward.” His daughter Dominik García-Lorido, who also plays his daughter in the movie, did not contradict this: She sai …

After starring in a string of heavy dramas, Andy Garcia lightens up and goes for the funny in City Island, a breezy comedy that fits the actor like a güayabera. Garcia stars as Vince Rizzo, the patriarch of a boisterous Italian-American family in the eponymous Bronx suburb whose members constantly lie to each other, until those lies snowball into a pile so large it can no longer be ignored.
Before then, though, Vince, a prison guard, is taking acting lessons but hiding them from his wife (Julianna Margulies), who thinks he’s having an affair. Their daughter Vivian (Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Garcia’s real-life daughter) has dropped out of college and is moonlighting as a stripper. Their teenage son Vinnie (Ezra Miller) has a fetish for overweight women — and learns that the obese neighbor across the street maintains a members-only website. Also, everyone smokes cigarettes but claims they don’t smoke.

There were moments of hilarity that were very specific to Quebec. Feature dancers would be booked at strip clubs, who would show up like guest strippers to liven up the talent roster. In burlesque, there would be hobo clowns. These were like hobo strippers. There were these two strippers who were wearing sports bras and they would traipse around to a country version of the Macarena. They had huge implants that theyd bobble on peoples heads. Me and the other strippers would just look at them and ask, What in Gods name is going on?

Aside from learning how to strip, Sasha says she learned French in strip clubs. Theres nothing more beautiful and hilarious than stripper Québécois. Im so glad I learned French in a strip club! In this latest incarnation of the show, Ive really enjoyed translating some of the dialogue into French. I love Québécois so being able to add dashes of it into the script has been a lot of fun. Many of the conversations in this show originally took place in Québécoiseven when it was spoken in English, it came from French and had a French-Canadian quality to it.

For most of “Finest” we get sections of each character’s storyline separately, although it is clear their paths could inadvertently cross at any point. Eddie goes through the motions of his last days, trying mostly to keep his head down and avoid doing anything (except some coke with a stripper and the occasional drink while he drives). Sal has a pregnant wife, three kids, and a house he is convinced is too small to be even adequate. Short on money for the down payment on a new house, Sal is preoccupied and growing increasingly more reckless in his attempts to find drug money to steal. Tango? He is understandably bitter at his boss (Will Patton) for keeping him undercover for so long that his life is falling apart without him around to look after it. When they ask him to set up his pal Caz (Snipes), Tango isn’t really sure which side he is loyal to.

A Brooklyn pizza man transformed his basement TriBeCa condo into a cheesy “extreme party” spot, complete with a stripper pole and a 15-foot slide onto a sunken dance floor, court papers charge.
One party offered “fire massages” — where a burning stick is waved over partially clad partygoers.
In a bid to avoid possible legal liability for the bacchanalian bashes, the owner, James McGown, transferred the deed for the apartment to his 6-year-old daughter, his disgusted neighbors claim in papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.
The real-estate developer and restaurateur — he owns South Brooklyn Pizza and PJ Hanley’s bar in Carroll Gardens — bought the basement unit on Reade Street in 2006.

SARAH Jessica Parker, Matthew McConaughey and the unreal Real housewives of New York were at Bravo’s 2010 Upfront Party at Skylight Studio in New York City. On the scripted side of the ledger, Bravo is tinkering with Room Service, a one-hour comedy/drama hybrid about a posh hotel that runs a male escort service on the side, and I’m Not Myself These Days, a Darren Star adaptation of Josh Kilmer-Purcell’s 2006 memoir about leading a double life as an ad agency grunt-cum-drag queen.
