Manhattan Strip Clubs: Strip House

William Grimes, in a review for The New York Times that year, wrote that Strip House wasn’t so much a steakhouse as “a catalog of hip references to the idea of a steakhouse.” He awarded the restaurant one star.
Now it deserves two. Age has given David Rockwell’s design for the room a kind of gravitas, and with it the restaurant has gained some of the clubby appeal you used to be able to find at places like Gino, on Lexington Avenue, which has a similar layout, or in the bar room at “21.” (As at “21,” there is great fun to be had in snooping about the place. In addition to portraits of Viennese strippers, torch singers and ancient celebrities on the walls, there is a signed portrait of Thurgood Marshall near the bar.)

Manhattan Strip Clubs: Brick City Connections: Brick City Burlesque

Popularized in the United States in the 19th century, burlesque evolved as a mix of adult entertainment, a performing art, and satiric comedy. Burlesque often draws focus to the female form, but the main attractions are the actresses themselves. Modern burlesque is often thought of as classier than traditional stripping because of the artistic quality of the show.
At Brick City Burlesque, performers Minnie Tonka and Philly Caramel appeared on stage last Thursday.
Each of them was featured in three acts. Minnie Tonka performed a Mary Tyler Moore routine to the theme song from the show, danced in a gold dress in a more erotic style, and finished with a reverse strip tease. The last one was the only instance of full nudity in the show, though it was right at the beginning. For someone putting clothing on, it was oddly compelling. It felt as though she reversed the paradigm of taking clothes off, but still did it seductively.

Manhattan Strip Clubs: Club Kalua owners charged with mortgage fraud

Club Kalua owners charged with mortgage fraud
Associated Press – March 9, 2010 5:25 PM ET
NEW YORK (AP) – The mother and son owners of the defunct strip club made infamous by the shooting of Sean Bell have been charged in a mortgage fraud case in Queens.
Martina Duran and Robert Arias were each ordered held on $250,000 bail Tuesday after being charged with larceny, identity theft and other crimes. The pair owned Club Kalua, where Bell’s bachelor party ended in tragedy in 2006.
Undercover detectives investigating reports of prostitution at the club killed the unarmed Bell and wounded two friends in a 50-shot barrage after following them outside. Three officers who claimed they believed the men had a gun were later acquitted of manslaughter.
Prosecutors in the fraud case allege Duran and Arias were part of a $2 million scheme to use stolen identities to buy and sell three properties. There was no immediate response to a phone message left with Duran’s attorney. Her son’s lawyer declined comment.

Manhattan Strip Clubs: ‘Good Guy’ fails to distinguish itself

Overall, “The Good Guy” is filled to the brim with one−liner quips about the nature of dating. The characters, especially the protagonists, are not bland and archetypal; on the other hand, they do not say anything particularly thought−provoking or original. Audiences have seen shadows of these characters in every romantic comedy that has come out in the last five years, and thus will likely feel emotionally disconnected from the film.
DePietro tries to paint an honest picture of the dating landscape of Manhattan, especially the lifestyles of ambitious Wall Street professionals. The contrast, however, between the lives of young men and women as depicted in the film is unsettlingly clichéd. The men frequent stripper clubs and bars and find entertainment in breaking piñatas full of prescription drugs. Meanwhile, the women eat designer desserts and provide endless support for each other when faced with cheating boyfriends and loveless lives. The so−called comedy portion of the movie draws solely from commentary on these typical gender roles.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: R&B Singer D’Angelo Allegedly Busted Trying to Pay $40 for a Prostitute…”How …

NEW YORK (CBS) D’Angelo has gotten into trouble for something police in New York say he was allegedly trying to get himself into.
Authorities say the Grammy Award-winning R&B singer-songwriter was busted for trying to pay $40 for sex with an undercover cop posing as a prostitute. Instead of getting a paid hookup, the singer was himself picked up – as police arrested him early Saturday while he was driving his Range Rover.
This isn’t the first time D’Angelo has had a run in with the law.
In Jan. 2005, D’Angelo, whose real name is Michael Archer, received a three-year suspended sentence for cocaine possession, according to BBC News. That same year, he got his license suspended for 18 months on charges of marijuana possession and drunk driving (that’s where the charming mugshot above comes from).

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: The real scandal is this obsession with scandal

The Democrats risk becoming known more generally as a party of corruption – and in many respects, they have only themselves to blame for their current predicament.
For a start, the latest charges raise questions about the quality and integrity of individual Democratic Party politicians in office. Take Patterson. Scandal, in fact, propelled him from lieutenant governor into the top role, following Eliot Spitzer’s resignation two years ago due to revelations of frequenting prostitutes. Many believe that Patterson, who is black, was put on the ticket for token diversity reasons, and he has certainly looked out of his depth as governor. The charges against him – calling the woman who accused his aide of sexual assault, and improperly soliciting for free Yankees World Series tickets – are petty in nature, and seem to be evidence of amateurism and incompetence rather than major corruption.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Season of the rich

Other clues should be found in the excellent documentary series Sex: the Revolution but the first episode didn’t bring us anywhere close to this young breed. The series traces the elements that help the US swing between puritanical hypocrisy and free-thinking, free-sexing liberation. All the key players feature: Kinsey, Heffner, Steinem, Presley, Waters, Gurley-Brown, a mansion full of bunnies and a Berkeley campus full of bad language.
It is only 50 years since homosexuality was a crime punishable by five years’ jail time in some US states. Sexual intercourse other than that occurring within matrimony for the purposes of procreation was taboo. The idea of a woman actually enjoying sex was tantamount to prostitution. The pill, penicillin, the civil rights movements and feminism have made it possible for lost children like PC and Jessie to bitch-slap at Fashion Week, pay retail on Madison Avenue and eat chicken in a tin. We are doomed.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Suffer the Little Children . . .

… I’m certain you don’t agree with these teachings from the Bible about sex. And you shouldn’t. The list goes on: The Bible says clearly that sex with a prostitute is acceptable for the husband but not for the wife. Polygamy (more than one wife) is acceptable, as is a king’s having many concubines. (Solomon, the wisest king of all, had 1,000 concubines.) Slavery and sex with slaves, marriage of girls aged 11-13, and treatment of women as property are all accepted practices in the Scriptures. On the other hand, there are strict prohibitions against interracial marriage, birth control, discussing or even naming a sexual organ, and seeing one’s parents nude.”

And who hasn’t heard about the scandal at “ground zero” involving a Nigerian member of the Vatican choir who’s leisure time was spent procuring male prostitutes (some of whom were seminarians) for international visitors to the Vatican as well as a “Gentleman of the Pope” (a sort of high-ranking, well-connected civilian who ushers visitors in to have their audience with the Pope) who is currently incarcerated on unrelated corruption charges.
