The singer has certainly gone quiet in the music industry since he released Voodoo in 2000. This is not the first time D’Angelo has been on the wrong side of the law; in 2002 he was arrested for aggressive driving and other counts including resisting arrest. Carole Estabrook: Paterson didn’t make this mess

Gov. David Paterson, who can’t seem to catch a break, is now being accused of violating state ethics laws. Apparently the governor may have fibbed about whether he sought free World Series tickets from the New York Yankees.
Honestly, is this seriously the best dirt dug up on the poor man; $850 worth of Yankees tickets? Need I remind you that a certain governor of yore spent thousands on prostitutes? Talk about splitting hairs.
New York Yankees post season games are practically gala events. A-list celebrities Robin Williams, Bruce Willis, Chris Rock and Denzel Washington have all been spotted in the stands. In fact, often times the fans in the stands are more famous than the Yankees on the field. And celebrities, despite their wealth, rarely pay for anything. Heck, a lot of celebrities don’t pay their taxes. Why on earth would they pay for Yankees tickets?

This week, Hynes announced that “no criminality has been found” after his investigation of the videotapes made by investigative journalists James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, which show ACORN employees counseling the pair on getting a mortgage for a house of prostitution.
…
If his investigators had actually watched the videotapes, they would have found ACORN employees apparently advising a pimp and prostitute on how to defraud mortgage lenders, deposit prostitution money in a bank, hide money from the government and avoid detection while running a whorehouse with teenage girls from El Salvador.
…
The ACORN employees also stressed that Giles should do nothing to attract attention to her prostitution money. Albert said: “You can buy a decent car for yourself, no big fancy thing to attract people, all right?”
…
Even after Giles explained her plan to house a “slew” of 13-, 14- and 15-year-old girls from El Salvador for her prostitution business, Rivera simply responded: “So you guys ready to schedule that (mortgage application) for the summer?”

The recent news about Governor Paterson’s decision not to seek re-election should not come as a shock to many.
Even though he has been in office for less than two years, the governor has been plagued by scandals since his administration began.
This all started with the resignation of his predecessor, Eliot Spitzer, due to a prostitution scandal. Shortly thereafter, Paterson came out saying that he cheated on his wife, and used campaign funds for his hotel trysts.
His first big job as governor was selecting somebody to replace Hillary Clinton’s senate seat after she became secretary of state. He thoroughly botched this task by dropping Caroline Kennedy as a potential candidate at the last minute and berating her in the media.

As I reflect today—the 99th annual International Women’s Day—on a century of progress, I am given pause when I consider the harsh reality of life for millions of women around the world, women for whom survival remains a supreme challenge and empowerment remains a foreign concept. These are the women of the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, who have endured rape by the hundreds of thousands in a conflict that has claimed more than 5 million lives. They are the women of neighboring Rwanda, where a genocide that killed 800,000 and raped up to 500,000 more than a decade ago has left thousands of the country’s women and girls HIV-positive and still struggling to feed their families. They are the women of present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which thousands of women were forced into rape concentration camps in the early 1990s and where today, women face forced prostitution, trafficking, and—among the women with whom my organization, Women for Women International, works—an unemployment rate of up to 80 percent.
