2. He rationalizes that having sex with prostitutes is less of a violation than having an ongoing affair with someone you know.
…
2. I think we can all agree that having sex with prostitutes and having sex with someone other than your spouse both fall squarely into the “very bad” category. If we ignore the fact that the solicitation of prostitution is a crime, there is really no benefit in distinguishing which one might be worse because they are both “very bad.”
Spitzer has tried to convince himself that there is a moral reason why he didn’t have an affair with someone he cared about and instead chose prostitutes. He is fooling himself. The reason that he did not have an ongoing extramarital affair is that he can’t fall in love with anyone other than himself. Prostitutes were convenient and, in his eyes, less than human. True intimacy with a wife or a mistress doesn’t seem to be an option for him.

Rangel is the last of the tight-knit, intensely loyal, and politically savvy “Gang of Four”, which has controlled Harlem politics since the 1970s, to still be in elected office. But last week he was forced to step aside from the committee chairmanship and now faces questions over whether, at 79, he will be able to stand for Congress this year for the 21st time. He dodged censure over unpaid taxes on a villa he owns in the Dominican Republic, but was then criticised by a House watchdog for company-funded trips to the Caribbean. The accumulating accusations of ethical violations threaten to bring down this last remaining Harlem pillar, with little apparently to take its place.
As for Paterson, his ineffectual governorship will certainly end in November, since he has bowed to pressure and ended his re-election campaign. Thrust into power when Eliot Spitzer’s dalliances with prostitutes became public in 2008, he is now fighting a drip of accusations of minor sleaze, including the claim that he intervened to help an aide accused in a domestic violence case and perjured himself in an ethics investigation into how he came by free tickets to a baseball game.

Hmm. We were under the impression that former Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s romps with prostitutes were what placed Mr. Paterson in his current role. While God is often said to work in mysterious ways, the governor managed to detect a divine guidance that has eluded most others.
Perhaps the serious man in Albany is Mr. Paterson’s appointed lieutenant governor, Richard Ravitch. Another possibility is the Assembly speaker, Sheldon Silver, although “serious” doesn’t do him justice. Funereal is more like it.
Mr. Spitzer could easily be the title character in “District 9.” He was Client 9 to federal prosecutors, and some of his call girl flings took place in the District, the District of Columbia. New Yorkers have him to thank for another fine mess he’s gotten us into. (A little Laurel and Hardy allusion never hurt anyone.)

D’Angelo Busted Trying to Pick Up Hooker
D’Angelo apparently went cruisin’ and now his reputation’s taking a bruisin’.
The R&B smoothie, considered the consummate ladies’ man back in the day, was collared Saturday night in New York City after allegedly trying to solicit a prostitute who turned out to be an undercover cop. Oops.
The 36-year-old D’Angelo (aka Michael Eugene Archer) was driving around Greenwich Village in his Range Rover when he spotted the woman, pulled over and offered her $40 for sex, according to the NYPD.
Instead, he wound up booked on a count of patronizing a prostitute in the third degree, according to the Manhattan district attorney. He was released on his own recognizance.
D’Angelo is maintaining his innocence and has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
“We know there is a lot of speculation in regard to the arrest of D’Angelo in New York City this past weekend,” his manager, Lindsay Guion, said in a statement, adding that the singer “is contesting the allegations made …

And by the time Sigourney Weaver wearing a bold red gown (didn’t she get the memo from the rest of the cast?) appeared onstage to present Best Art Direction to Avatar, there was a sense of relief that the 3D blockbuster was not slighted or ignored by the Academy. Tom Ford, fashion designer and director of A Single Man, and Sarah Jessica Parker, fashion muse, presented Best Costume to Sandy Powell for The Young Victoria. “I already have 2 of these,” said Powell. You can pass your third statuette to me, if you ask me.
The hosts appeared again to show us a spoof of Paranormal Activity. A slapstick act well done, including the watching-the-awards-show-from-backstage scene. In a conspicuous and vulgar move to boost ratings, young starlets and eye candies Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart appeared onstage looking radiant (and constipated), sending millions of Twilight fans gushing worldwide. They presented a very random Horror Movies montage, which included clips of Psycho, Rosemary Baby, The Exorcist and…Twilight. Seriously?! I always thought Twilight was a teenager stripper movie (oh the abs!). Somebody return me my $10 movie ticket money stat!

Adam Mair gave Buffalo a 1-0 lead with 5:57 left in regulation, before Brandon Dubinsky tied it.
Heroin Use On The Rise
In the 1980’s and 90’s, there was a cocaine and crack cocaine epidemic. Today those drugs are still a problem but heroin use is on the rise and very concerning to local law enforcers.
Just last week, the FBI and Safe Streets Task Force raided two local strip clubs that were trafficking heroin. And the last three inmates to commit suicide at the Erie County Holding Center were addicted to heroin.

Take another look at the batting order ahead of Cuomo. Hevesi was the first to resign, in December of ‘06. He punched his own ticket out of office in a plea bargain in Albany. He copped to one count of defrauding the government, having been caught using state employees to help care for his ailing wife. It kept him away from a grand jury indictment. He paid a $5,000 fine on his way out the door and is banned from ever again holding elective office.
Spitzer was the next to go, of course, March of 2008. He rode into the governor’s mansion as a white knight and ended up at hotels with girls from an escort service. Spitzer finally got caught with pants down, quit, turned the job over to Paterson.

A new tell-all about former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer says his friends put him on suicide watch when his sex scandal surfaced.
The book by one of Eliot Spitzer’s closest friends, Lloyd Constantine, says there was also talk of treatment for sex addiction for the disgraced governor.
Constantine’s new book is out this week.
“I thought the moment Eliot ceased being governor would be a dangerous time for him to be alone,” Constantine wrote of Spitzer’s last day as governor as his friends put him on suicide watch.
The 287-page book offers the most detailed account yet of Spitzer’s final days, but stays mum about any sexual details regarding so-called “Client 9,” his undercover name as the frequenter of
a high-priced call girl named Ashley Dupre.
