Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Review: Brooklyn’s Finest

The second story focuses on the equally-desperate plight of Tango Butler (Don Cheadle) a detective who is so deep undercover that it’s taken a toll on his personal life. He begs his boss (Will Patton) for a desk job, but is referred to FBI Agent Smith (Ellen Barkin), a racist who makes that reassignment contingent on his first setting up Casanova Phillips (Wesley Snipes), an ex-con who’s recently returned to the streets after serving eight years in a Federal prison. But because Caz once saved his life, Tang is very reluctant to entrap the former friend.
Finally, there’s Eddie Dugan (Richard Gere), a jaded alcoholic just a week away from retirement. He’s become so blasé he won’t even bother to arrest a perpetrator unless the crime is being committed in his precinct. Separated from his wife, Eddie has been investing emotionally in Chantel (Shannon Kane), the proverbial prostitute with a heart of gold and man-pleasing lips.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: NY gov faces legal minefield in conduct inquiries

Legal experts said the attorney general’s office is likely investigating whether Paterson or his aides directed the state police to pressure Booker to drop the case.
Several high ranking state police officials have already been questioned. Some have been asked to come back for second interviews.
Separately, the state’s Public Integrity Commission has accused Paterson of violating the law by soliciting free tickets to the 2009 World Series and then lying to investigators about his intention to pay for them.
The case was referred to the Albany County prosecutor’s office and the attorney general for possible criminal investigation.
Paterson has declined to answer questions about his conduct, but has insisted he never abused his office. He represented Harlem for 20 years in the state Senate before becoming lieutenant governor in 2006, then governor in 2008, when Eliot Spitzer stepped down during a prostitution scandal.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Kevin Frisch: Frustration without representation

Massa’s temporary successor will likely be decided in a special election called by Gov. David Paterson — if he can stick around long enough to formally declare the seat vacant and set a date. The governor has been mired in his own controversies, including an ugly and complicated domestic violence case involving a staffer, and Paterson’s apparently inappropriate solicitation of 2009 World Series tickets. (Can you believe that? Gubernatorial perks don’t include free tickets to the World Series when a home team plays? We really do need that People’s Constitutional Convention.)
Paterson himself, lest we forget, is among our unelected representatives — unelected to the office in which he’s serving, anyway. He succeeded former Gov. Eliot Spitzer — another purveyor of salty language — who stepped down after a prostitution scandal. Paterson has since confirmed what we’ve always suspected about lieutenant governors: They’re nice guys who are wonderful at supporting the governor but would be in over their heads if elevated to the top post.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Book: Spitzer May Have Been Suicidal

A close adviser to former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer says in a new book the ex-official’s friends put him on a suicide watch following his resignation.
Lloyd Constantine, staff adviser to Spitzer during his governorship, said in “A Journal of the Plague Year,” his account of the administration’s final days and aftermath, that friends worried Spitzer may be suicidal following his resignation from office, the New York Daily News reported Friday.
“I thought the moment Eliot ceased being governor would be a dangerous time for him to be alone,” Constantine wrote in the 287-page book.
Constantine wrote Spitzer called him in tears March 9, 2008, three days before his resignation, to explain he was about to be revealed as a patron of high-priced prostitute Ashley Dupre.
“I can’t continue as governor and must resign,” Constantine quoted Spitzer as saying.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Immigration Help Is On The Way To New York State—Maybe

Spitzer, a
mere two years after having been outed for spending
$5,000 a pop for a trysts with a sub-average, hard-as-nails
looking Washington D.C. hooker
Ashley Dupre, is now an ethics (!) lecturer on the college
scene.
In November
2009, Spitzer
addressed his alma mater Harvard
University
on “ethics in
government.” One month earlier, Spitzer accepted
a teaching position at the
City College of New York. His
class is titled “Law and Public Policy”
If you missed Spitzer in
Cambridge, you have time to
catch him at the State University of New Paltz on March 11.
My advice to
campus administrators: lock up the coeds!
Unbelievable, considering that while in
office, Spitzer broke the law as many as 80 times according to
Kristin Davis
, the madam who
managed the prostitution service he frequented.
Davis, you should know,
announced
her candidacy for governor and will run on the pro-pot,
pro-prostitution platform.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Accused of Lying, Will Paterson Lose His Security Clearance?

How do you share top secret information with a Governor who has been accused of lying under oath?  That is the question some federal and local security officials are asking now that Governor Paterson allegedly lied to the state Public Integrity Commission.
One federal official, who spoke on condition on anonymity, said the allegations surrounding the Governor are serious enough that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security should pull Paterson’s clearances.
A Homeland Security spokesman in Washington declined to comment on the status of Governor Paterson’s clearances. Several officials said as of now Paterson’s security status had not changed.  A Paterson spokeswoman said the Governor will continue in all of his public duties and responsibilities.
Governor Spitzer lost his security clearances amid the prostitution scandal — and later resigned from office. South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford had his security clearances revoked following his secret trip to South America.  Homeland Security officials at that time voiced concern over his “honesty.”

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Resign, resign, resign

First, we had former Gov. Eliot Spitzer, a rising star in the Democratic Party nationally who ended up having to resign when it turned out he was soliciting prostitutes the way some people order pizza. That might have been forgivable, had 1) Prostitution been legal, 2) Spitzer not made his mark as a prosecutor by going after prostitution, or 3) Spitzer not been caught moving enough money around to spend on prostitutes that it drew the attention of bank regulators.
Spitzer ultimately wasn’t prosecuted, but he was forced from office ignominiously, and in his place New Yorkers got Gov. David Paterson, who immediately announced that he had had affairs in his lifetime. Okay, well, that’s not good. But points for honesty. And surely, surely, Paterson would keep himself on the straight-and-narrow after seeing what happened to his predecessor.

Frankly, as someone who cares about women’s rights, I’d rather have the guy who just liked sex with prostitutes.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: New York politics rocked by upheavals

New York was once home to political giants, including presidents Teddy and Franklin Delano Roosevelt and former Democratic Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan. Hillary Rodham Clinton moved to New York to win a Senate seat, as did Robert F. Kennedy, the late president’s brother.
Now the state is better known for producing people such as state Sen. Hiram Monseratte, a Bronx Democrat expelled last month after being convicted on domestic violence charges that included dragging his girlfriend and cutting her face with a broken bottle.
The most eye-popping New York political scandal took place exactly two years ago, when Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned in disgrace after being linked to a high-priced prostitution ring. His departure elevated Paterson, Spitzer’s hand-picked candidate for lieutenant governor, who seemed in over his head from the start.
