Manhattan Escorts: Spitzer, Then Paterson— Now Ravitch?

New York state has many distinctions, and it may possibly gain another—three different governors serving during one normal four-year term. This is something we can do without.
The prospect that governor No. 2, David Paterson, might call it quits before the present term ends on December 31, is becoming more of a possibility every day, as new revelations emerge about his involvement in a domestic violence case concerning one of his top aides.
Eliot Spitzer was the first to serve in the gubernatorial term that began in early January 2007. A little more than a year later, in early February 2008, Spitzer was revealed as a customer of an exclusive escort service. Two days later, he resigned, opening the door of the governor’s mansion in Albany to Lieutenant Governor David Paterson.

Manhattan Escorts: Three charged in human trafficking crackdown

Three charged in human trafficking crackdown
By: Scott McCabe
Examiner Staff WriterMarch 3, 2010
Montgomery County police have made human trafficking arrests in three cases in which they said pimps used Facebook or Craigslist to recruit teenage girls and solicit business.
One suspect ran a web design business in New York. A Maryland man had an Internet escort service that authorities say was a front for prostitution and human trafficking, and a D.C. man was charged with trying to recruit a 16-year-old girl he met on a social networking site
“The Internet has become the modern day track,” said Sgt. Ken Penrod, referring to the street corners where men traditionally cruise looking for prostitutes. “We just want people to know that it is occurring, that they’re using sites like MySpace to recruit your child.”

Manhattan Strip Clubs: The Marriage Ref | A

… Couples fight over things like stuffing a dead dog, having a stripper pole in the house and keeping a dead husband’s prosthetic leg. Intrigued yet?
Hosted by comic Tom Papa, who is the “marriage referee,” the show’s panel of celebrities changes every week. Guest panelists like Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Madonna and Ricky Gervais argue the case of either the husband or the wife, and add a great deal of humor to the show.
Baldwin, more hilarious in person than when he is scripted, says lines like, “Women come and go, but a stuffed dog is forever.” Papa, who makes the call at the end of the debate, does great impressions and livens things up with standup comedy.

Watching the couples fight has never been more amusing. One wife, Dianah Hunter, tells her husband that, “People in Hell want ice water, but they don’t get it,” after he tells her that a stripper pole is something he really wants.

Manhattan Strip Clubs: AS SEEN ON: Seinfeld’s return to NBC

The premise of the show is simple. Host and stand-up comic Tom Papa rolls a video of a married couple failing to resolve a problem in their home. The panel — which changes each episode but this time featured Kelly Ripa, Alec Baldwin and Seinfeld himself — “referees” the spat, designating either Team Husband or Team Wife as the victor. Papa then calls the couple via videophone to inform them of the panel’s decision. The process then begins again with a new couple. While the sneak preview presented only two scenarios, I expect the full-length episodes will feature three or more.
The fact that the show keeps the time we spend with each couple to a minimum is indicative of the problems involved — these are not serious marital issues, but petty arguments about stripper poles and extending the practice of taxidermy to a beloved dog.
Dianah Hunter’s stony responses to her sleazy husband Greg’s requests that they install a stripper pol …

Manhattan Escorts: Police Stop Three Human Trafficking Operations

The three women and Hubert were arrested on several charges including human trafficking of a juvenile for prostitution, sexual abuse of a minor and second-degree child abuse.
On Feb. 24 police arrested 24-year-old Deangelo Bynum, of northeast Washington.  Court documents show that Bynum used Facebook to try and recruit at least one minor for prostitution. Police said he communicated with the recruit through the social networking Web site, but when he traveled to meet her, the minor actually was an undercover Montgomery County detective, and Bynum is now behind bars.
Montgomery County detectives’ last arrest came on Friday, when they nabbed 31-year-old Arash Koraganie Ghulam Abbas, of Germantown.
He is charged with multiple counts of human trafficking for running an Internet escort service that police said was really used for prostitution.

Manhattan Escorts: 3 charged in Md. human trafficking crackdown

3 charged in Md. human trafficking crackdown
Associated Press03/02/10 11:18 AM EST
ROCKVILLE, MD. — Montgomery County police say a crackdown on human trafficking has led to multiple arrests.
Police say 31-year-old Arash Koraganie Ghulam Abbas of Germantown was arrested and charged with several counts of human trafficking on Friday. Officials say Abbas had an Internet escort service that ran as a front for prostitution and human trafficking.
Two days earlier, police arrested 24-year-old Deangelo A. Bynum of northeast Washington and charged him with solicitation of a minor for prostitution in another case. Bynum is accused of trying to recruit a 16-year-girl he found on Facebook.
Earlier last month, police made four arrests connected with a group that brought a 15-year-old girl from New York to Maryland and advertised her on Craigslist for prostitution.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: OUR VIEW: Paterson owes full accounting in aide’s abuse

OUR VIEW: Paterson owes full accounting in aide’s abuse
The Tonawanda News
Calls for Gov. David Paterson to resign are premature, but considering Paterson’s less-than-full accounting for his role in the scandal that chased him from the campaign, they’re hardly unexpected.
For weeks, rumors swirled about a blockbuster story that would surely force Paterson into a position like that of his predecessor Eliot Spitzer, who resigned after being caught in a prostitution sting.
To date, no hard proof has been proffered that Paterson has committed a crime. There is smoke, but so far no smoking gun in the case of a domestic dispute involving Paterson’s close aide and friend David Johnson.
Press accounts, primarily reporting by the New York Times, have brought to light a disturbing Halloween night incident between Johnson and his girlfriend. The woman, according to court records, accused Johnson of choking her and throwing her against a mirrored dresser. He took two phones away from her when she tried to call for help. A second woman witnessed the assault, according to Times reporters.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Leave David Alone! (It’s not nice to mock crazy people)

Paterson can’t imagine why anyone wants his hide: “It’s (his resignation) off the table,” Mr. Paterson said at a breakfast with editors from The New York Observer. “I don’t even know why it’s on the table.” Covering up for a woman-beating aide wouldn’t that put his job on the table?
But, as a psychologist, I can see that Paterson is inhabiting some other world than the New York political one, the one of being acting governor.
Instead, he lives in a world where secrets aren’t revealed and his career isn’t unraveling.
You know that world – the one where politicians have psychotic episodes when they’re found out doing something problematic?
(Envision Senator Larry Craig, after being caught soliciting sex in a men’s bathroom, swearing for the umpteenth time he’s not gay.)

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: NY state police chief abruptly retires in scandal

… We will do the investigation as fast as we can, as fast as practical,” Cuomo said. “We also want to do it right, we want to be thorough, we want to be fair, and we want to have all the facts.”
Corbitt succeeded acting Superintendent Preston Felton, who was part of another scandal known as Troopergate. The administration of then-Gov. Eliot Spitzer was accused of using state troopers for surveillance of the governor’s political enemies.
In November, the state Public Integrity Commission found that Felton ordered state police to create official-looking documents about a political foe’s use of state aircraft. He was accused of producing the material at the request of one of Spitzer’s aides, who then gave the documents to a reporter. Felton faced no penalty.
Spitzer later resigned amid a prostitution scandal, and Paterson, who was his lieutenant, ascended to governor.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: New York Soap Opera

Published: March 2, 2010
To the Editor:
Has New York State politics always been such a soap opera, or were we just not paying attention? The scenario that started with the prostitution charges against Gov. Eliot Spitzer continues to this day with the unhealthy tenure of Gov. David A. Paterson.
We found out that Mr. Spitzer was a hypocrite. He went after others for what he did himself. Will we now find out that Mr. Paterson is untruthful? It is very sad that figures with so much potential and talent are brought down by their own actions.
From Day 1 Governor Paterson couldn’t seem to do too many things right, though he did help to get the Rockefeller drug laws reformed. But how could he stand before the public last Friday and swear that he has done nothing wrong when more and more information is coming out that he reportedly grossly abused his position?
