Manhattan Adult Entertainment: NOW calls on NY Gov. Paterson to resign

… It is inappropriate for the governor to have any contact or to direct anyone to contact an alleged victim of violence,” said Marcia Pappas, president of NOW New York State. “This latest news is very disappointing for those of us who believed the governor was a strong advocate for women’s equality and for ending violence against women.”
“It is now time for the governor to step down,” she said in the written statement.
There was no immediate comment from Paterson’s office. Some leading Democrats have said he should resign to avoid further damage to the party in the 2010 elections.
Paterson has said he did nothing wrong, won’t resign and won’t comment on the continuing investigation that he requested from state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.
NOW has been influential in past scandals, including the ultimate resignation of Gov. Eliot Spitzer when he was named in a prostitution investigation and the state Senate’s expulsion Democratic state Sen. Hiram Monserrate in January after his misdemeanor conviction in an assault case involving his girlfriend.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: NOW calls on NY Gov. Paterson to resign

On Monday, the Democratic governor said he retains the authority to govern and would serve out his term, which has less than a year left.
Paul DerOhannesian, a defense attorney and former prosecutor, said last week that trying to induce someone not to testify in court can constitute witness tampering, and any perceived threat of harm can be intimidation.
One of the governor’s longtime friends, Democratic Sen. Bill Perkins, said in an interview Monday that if Paterson believes Cuomo’s investigation will find he engaged in illegal or improper behavior that could force his resignation, the governor should consider resigning now.
NOW has been influential in past scandals, including the ultimate resignation of Paterson’s predecessor, Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who was named in a prostitution investigation. Paterson was lieutenant governor at the time and ascended upon Spitzer’s departure.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Montgomery police arrest three in human trafficking, prostitution cases

Montgomery police arrest three in human trafficking, prostitution cases

On February 16, 2010, Rodney Hubert, age 34, of the 400 block of Vanderbilt Avenue in New York, was arrested and charged with the human trafficking of a juvenile for prostitution. This long-term investigation revealed that Rodney Hubert employed numerous individuals at his internet website design company in New York City who assisted in transporting a 15-year-old female from New York to Montgomery County, for the purpose of prostitution. The victim was recruited by the organization with the promise that she would travel to Maryland for a modeling photo shoot. Once in Maryland, the organization advertised the juvenile on Craigslist for prostitution. Also arrested were Christy Elmes, age 23, of the 3800 block of Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, New York; and Katherine Mateo, age 19, from the 200 block of Bethel Park Boulevard in the Bronx, New York. Also arrested in Georgia was Tomika Powell, age 21, of the 300 block of Geary Drive in Montgomery, …

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Marist Poll: Voters don’t want resignation but question Paterson’s ability

That’s the conclusion of a Marist College poll out this morning, which shows 66 percent of voters want Gov. David Paterson to finish his term, compared to 28 percent who want him to resign.
On the other hand, 62 percent don’t believe the governor can continue to be an effective leader, compared to the 34 percent who believe he can be.
Meanwhile, there’s a growing sense here in the Capitol that Paterson may step down: a press scrum is gathered the Capitol’s second floor outside Paterson’s office, waiting not for the governor, but for his second-in-command, Lt. Gov. Richard Ravitch to arrive for work. Ravitch would take over if the governor leaves office.
This wouldn’t be unprecedented, it’s been almost two years to the day when former Gov. Eliot Spitzer left amid a prostitution scandal, elevating Paterson from the Lt. Gov. position.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: NOW Calls On Gov. Paterson To Resign

Gov. David Paterson of New York should resign from office, the National Organization for Women’s New York State chapter just declared.
The organization’s statement follows the latest revelation about the Democratic governor — a report in today’s New York Times that he “personally directed two state employees to contact the woman who had accused his close aide of assaulting her, according to two people with direct knowledge of the governor’s actions.”
The Associated Press adds that NOW “is highly influential in Democratic politics and has a record of strong support for Paterson and his efforts to combat domestic violence.”
Paterson, who came to office in 2008 after then-governor Eliot Spitzer was embroiled in a prostitution scandal, announced last week he will not be a candidate for the governor’s post this November.

ACORN workers cleared by prosecutors

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: ACORN Committed No Crime: Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes

By Steven Thrasher, Tuesday, Mar. 2 2010 @ 10:15AM
Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes has determined that the ACORN Brooklyn office broke no laws when it was caught in James O’Keefe’s sting operation last year.
In a statement, Hynes says, “On September 15, 2009, my office began an investigation into possible criminality on the part of three ACORN employees.” The Associated Press reports that “two ACORN employees who were recorded handling the couple’s case in Brooklyn were fired.”
Hynes’ statement goes on to say “The three had been secretly videotaped by two people posing as a pimp and prostitute, who came to ACORN’S Brooklyn office, seeking advice about how to purchase a house with money generated by their ‘business.’ The ‘couple’ later made the recording public. That investigation is now concluded and no criminality has been found.”

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: New York Governor David A. Paterson – Another Obama Man Bites the Dust

New York Governor David A. Paterson – Another Obama Man Bites the DustAt any moment Governor David Paterson of New York will become the second NY governor to resign during the same term and the latest ex-Obama backer to bite the dust as a scandal proves too much.
Next Story >>
At any moment David Paterson, the highly acclaimed Governor of New York who took office after the prostitution scandal of the last NY governor, Eliot Spitzer, and was widely hailed by President Obama and the Democratic National Committee as a future leader of the party, will resign in a sea of scandal, poor performance and idiotic judgment. It was an amazing fall from grace with personal affairs being revealed first and then an abuse of power which should force his resignation.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: The Morning Fix: Disney and Cablevision draw line in sand. Saving the porn biz …

Dustin Hoffman makes bet. Dustin Hoffman has signed on to star in the pilot for HBO’s new drama “Luck” from David Milch (”Deadwood,” “NYPD Blue,” and, uh, “John from Cincinnati.”) The show is about horse racing and gambling. Now, why both the Hollywood Reporter and Variety are saying he is starring in the pilot is confusing to me. Does that mean he’s doing one episode or just that HBO hasn’t ordered it as a series yet so the trades don’t want to get ahead of themselves? Something tells me you don’t cast Dustin Hoffman  if you don’t think your show is getting picked up. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Shameless attempt to drive traffic. The Wrap offers up five ways to save the porn industry, which like other entertainment businesses is struggling to adapt to the digital world and battle piracy. While no doubt such a story will boost hits on the site, the truth is that adult entertainment has always led the way in exploiting new technology and now it is in the same boat as the rest of the media industry. Really, I’m going to read the article, not just look at the pictures.

Manhattan Strip Clubs: The Marriage Ref Should Have Signed a Prenup

The Marriage Ref is different. Here’s how it works. Footage of an arguing couple is played and the Marriage Ref, comedian Tom Papa, must decide who is right. Before he can do that, he discusses the problem with his panel of experts. Simple enough.
Sunday night’s episode focused around the Ridolfis from Long Island who were arguing about whether or not the husband could make a shrine for his beloved, and stuffed, dog Fonzi. She, obviously, did not want this. The panel consisting of Jerry Seinfeld, Kelly Ripa, and, yes, Alec Baldwin “debated” the issue. Not surprisingly, they decided that no, he should not make a shrine for his dead dog. Sure, the panel had a few funny things to say, but it dragged on and on. The second couple had a disagreement about whether or not to use a stripper pole. Same thing.
