Some may say that Paterson’s exit is yet another example of declining Democrat fortunes since Barack Obama captured the presidency — however, his departure is precisely what his party wanted. Paterson wasn’t elected to the governorship — having ascended to it from the lieutenant governor’s position after ex-governor Eliot Spitzer resigned in the wake of a prostitution scandal — and had plainly become a political liability. Paterson’s approval rating had dropped from a high point of 75 percent to a low of 17 percent just last autumn and has remained in the doldrums since. Thus had the Democrat establishment been pressuring him to withdraw from the race, throwing its support behind Andrew Cuomo, son of former governor Mario Cuomo. In fact, Barack Obama himself had asked Paterson to relinquish his ambitions just last September (it didn’t help that Paterson had officially, albeit tepidly, supported Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democrat primary). Even the New York Times — which normally treats liberal fellow travelers with kid gloves — found exposés on the governor fit to print.

Former McKesson HBOC Chairman Charles McCall will remain free until his formal sentencing date, The Recorder has reported, despite requests from prosecutors to jail him immediately for failing to disclose an arrest for soliciting prostitution to court officials. A federal judge this week determined that McCall posed no flight risk, The Recorder explained, since he has made all of his scheduled court appearances since he was originally indicted on securities fraud charges in 2003. However, The Recorder added, the judge did raise McCall’s bail and ordered him to stay off his boat – which can reportedly make it to the Bahamas “on a clear day” – while he awaits formal sentencing for his crimes. more…
Government prosecutors are seeking to jail former McKesson HBOC Chairman Charles McCall ahead of his formal sentencing date for securities fraud, The Recorder has reported. Convicted on multiple counts of securities fraud last month, The Recorder noted, McCall was originally scheduled to be sentenced for his crimes sometime next year. But government aut …

NEW YORK (WPIX) – Eliot Spitzer’s Manhattan Madam, who allegedly supplied call girls for the former New York governor, will officially announce her own candidacy for governor Monday.
Kristin Davis is slated to run as an independent candidate in the New York State gubernatorial election in November 2010.
She’s expected to announce her candidacy with the Libertarian Party at the historic Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown Manhattan Monday.
Sources tell PIX News Davis will also outline her platform, which includes legalization, regulation and taxation of prostitution and marijuana to generate urgently needed new revenues for New York State and her support for gay marriage. Davis reportedly intends to petition her way onto the ballot.
“I was valedictorian of my high-school class,” she told the Daily News. “I worked 10 years in finance. I was vice president of a hedge fund. I went on to build a multimillion-dollar business from scratch.”

Even with this sparse material, Alec Baldwin got off a few good one-liners (”I think if you’re going to stuff your dog, you should stuff it in either a useful or an attractive position.”). Seinfeld managed sometimes to dice up the marriage problems humorously, as in the above clip about a couple arguing over placing a stripper’s pole in their bedroom. And Kelly Ripa told it like it was, in that way she does. The host, comedian Tom Papa, was generally agreeable but laughed too much at the panel’s jokes, like he couldn’t believe that he had his own show. (We feel you.) And the humor behind too many of those jokes came from way too similar a place as The Jay Leno Show’s.

In tonight’s premiere, we saw a gentleman who wanted to have a stripper pole placed in their home. The wife was not too keen on the idea. And really, who would be, unless I suppose you were a stripper. Or maybe you somehow believe that stripper pole dancing really is a form of exercise. Sorry, rambling. In another dispute, it revealed a husband who had stuffed his dead dog and wanted it to stay in the living room for all to see. Ewwww. That is creepy! Check that video out below. I get wierded out sometimes when I see our beloved dog Ali’s ashes that sit in a keepsake box on the mantle of the fireplace! In the end, who proved to be victorious in each of these arguments? The wives of course. No surprise there. It should always be like that….just sayin’.

The Marriage Ref goes out of its way to choose couples who have patently ridiculous and pointless arguments. The two in the premiere episode tonight involved a man who’d had his beloved dog “the Fonz” stuffed and wanted to display it in his living room (in a special nook he’d created just for it!) and a man who really, really wanted to install a stripper pole in his bedroom for his wife to gyrate on. If you’re making a goofy show about how married people just don’t understand or about how men can never respect their women or any of a million cliched directions you could go, then I suppose this could work. The problem comes after the clips package is over and once the celebrities start talking.
…
Once the mostly inoffensive clips packages are over, though, the horribleness begins in earnest. Seinfeld and two celebrity pals – Alec Baldwin and Kelly Ripa in the premiere – act as if they are …

Mungeer acknowledged reports that the trooper who contacted the woman was Maj. Charles Day, head of the governor’s detail and a union member. He said one union member has contacted a lawyer in connection with the investigation, but said Friday he hadn’t spoken with Day about it and didn’t know whether it was him.
“Charles Day is a very responsible trooper, a genuine good guy. I don’t see him doing this on his own,” Mungeer said. He welcomed Cuomo’s investigation and noted that the last time the attorney general looked into political influence in the governor’s detail, he found no wrongdoing among rank-and-file troopers.
Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s term ended with his 2008 resignation following disclosures by federal investigators that he was patronizing a prostitute at his Washington, D.C., hotel room. That raised questions still unanswered publicly about what his full-time security detail knew.

The woman at the center of 50 Cent’s sex tape lawsuit has been identified as the mother of rapper Rick Ross’ daughter. The In Da Club hit-maker – real name Curtis Jackson – is facing legal action from Lastonia Leviston, who alleges he unlawfully released her homemade sex clip on the internet after editing himself into the video.
Leviston claims she and former boyfriend Ross made the tape on June 30th 2008, and he promised to destroy it, according to the New York Post.
However, Ross allegedly sold the tape to Jackson, who posted it on his website during a feud with Ross last March, blurring out the rapper’s face while altering the footage to depict himself wearing a curly wig and blue robe.
The suit also charges Jackson with making false allegations that Leviston was a prostitute, alleging the rapper “discussed the video and referred to (Leviston) as ’Brooke’ and called her a ’call girl’ more than once” during a December 2009 radio interview.

Paterson’s decision not to seek election in November came days after the New York Times reported that the governor and state police may have intervened in a domestic violence case involving a Paterson aide, David Johnson.
At a press conference Friday, Paterson said he plans to spend the remainder of his term focusing on the state’s problems.
“It has become increasingly clear to me in the last few days that I cannot run for office and manage the state’s business at the same time,” he said.
Paterson said that an investigation into the allegations against him by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo would vindicate him.
“I have never abused my office, not now, not ever, and I believe that when the facts are reviewed, the truth will prevail,” he said.
Cuomo was widely expected to challenge Paterson in a Democratic primary, though he has not announced his candidacy for governor. Paterson became governor in March 2008 after former Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a prostitution scandal.
