Lawsuit Alleges Sexual Harassment at Strip Club!
…
Garcia also claims that early last year general manager Kelly Gerald-Hughes began to “repeatedly touch (her) in a sexual manner on her legs and thighs” early last year. It’s being alleged that Gerald-Hughes did more “performing” in the VIP rooms than managing, and offered to make out with Garcia “in front of the customers for a fee.” Gerald-Hughes also allegedly made remarks about the size of Garcia’s breasts in front of customers and stroked her leg in a VIP room. Who knew this kind of stuff went on at strip clubs?
Garcia says she was “humiliated and degraded,” and when she complained “on more than one occasion” to club owner Robert Gans, Gerald-Hughes allegedly told her she had “significant influence” over Penthouse Club CEO Mark Yackow. She was fired two weeks before Christmas after being accused of “stealing a few bucks” and tells the Daily News, “They couldn’t look me in the eye. I was loyal to them, and this is how they treat me.” The club hasn’t commented yet, but we’ll keep you posted on this and all other strip club lawsuits as they develop.

John’s world is shaken when his boss asks him to head to Vegas to investigate a possible fraud tied to a car accident. He teams with the shady and mean Virgil (Romany Malco, from The 40-year-old Virgin, Blades of Glory and The Love Guru). Along the way, the duo runs into a variety of odd people: a stripper in a wheelchair (Emmanuelle Chriqui), nudist war veterans, and a human torch held prisoner by his own flames at a fair. All surreal scenes that almost make you think of Salvador Dali’s work.

In the cavernous Lab Theater in the North Loop area, a little slice of New York is born. The space is set up for a local production of Rent, the musical about bohemian artists struggling with love, poverty, and AIDS on the Lower East Side. Among the show’s wide cross-section of Twin Cities talent, one of the most innovative casting choices was rising reggaeton and hip-hop star Maria Isa in the role of Mimi, the dying love interest at the center of the show. The A.V. Club caught up with Isa at a recent rehearsal for the musical, which runs through Feb. 21, to talk about playing a stripper, how hip-hop translates to Broadway, and what’s next.
The A.V. Club: What drew you to the role of Mimi?
Maria Isa: I think the fact that I’ve been in New York and working in New York since Street Politics was released [in 2009], and her [Mimi's] upbringing on the Lower East S …

I know the Lottery is voluntary. No one puts a gun to anyone’s head and says you have to buy a Lottery ticket. But if it was wrong when local “wise guys” connected to organized crime in my old neighborhood were running numbers or taking bets on football games, what makes it so right if the government sponsors gambling? I’m not saying it’s wrong, I’m just asking whether our best rationale is the fact that we have a fiscal crisis in the state? Is the argument that the worse the crisis becomes, the more “creative” we have to get about bringing in new revenue?
Well, if that’s the case, where do we draw the line?
Is it so crazy to think that, say, prostitution, if sponsored by the state, would become more socially acceptable as long as the government gets a nice hefty cut from those who run houses of prostitution?
I’m not advocating prostitution; I’m just asking where the government draws the line.
