As you might expect, Fox — which, like the Post, is owned by New Corp. — isn’t commenting.
At first glance, it would make sense for Fox: Take the meanest man in England and exchange him with the crudest man in either hemisphere. Could be an even swap.
And watching Stern’s opinionated, prickly personality rub up against Ellen DeGeneres’ oppressive niceness would be fun. It might even give the show the lift it desperately needs in a post-Simon, post-Paula world.
But would this work? Really?
It just seems like a marriage made in hell. Stern has a penchant for strippers and midgets, not Fantasia Barrino. The shock jock’s musical taste run more towards Megadeth than Adam Lambert. In fact, he routinely lampoons the kind of starry eyed ingenues that “Idol” unleashes on the American public on a weekly basis.

When I was a young college student at Yonsei University in the 1960s, I read J.D. Salinger’s “Catcher in the Rye” with great curiosity, because it was a sensational adolescent novel. It was the story of an American teenage boy, Holden Caulfield, after he was expelled from his boarding school, Pencey Prep school.
Over three days in New York City, he had the run of weird encounters with taxi drivers, nuns, an elevator operator, three girls from Seattle, a prostitute and a former teacher.
In his eyes, the world was controlled and dominated by “phonies,” and he struggled with limited success to come to terms with love, sex and ultimately himself.
The story of one young man’s view of New York City and its citizens instantly became a classic novel. I could see a portrait of a New York young man wondering about the world. The novel did depict a young man’s empathy.

Kristen Stewart did her civil duty by serving jury duty recently, but she may have gotten a court security guard in trouble during the process. After the 3-day prostitution trial she sat on, a security guard asked for a photo with the actress. She gladly did so and went on her way. But then the security guard posted the photo on the internet…and now his job is on the line, since celebrities in court for any matter is confidential. Oops!

For a guy who insists he’s not plotting a comeback, Eliot Spitzer sure looks like he’s ready to run for something.
The 50-year-old former governor of New York, who quit in March 2008 after a federal investigation of a prostitution ring caught him patronizing the high-priced talent, has been working hard to repair his shattered image–this week making two back-to-back appearances in which he confronted his scandalous past head-on.

… UPDATE BELOW] The rumor mill is churning right now about a “big, damaging” New York Times “bombshell” story that supposedly features some ruinous dirt about the personal life of Governor David Paterson. Elizabeth Benjamin at the Daily News hears it “will be far worse than his acknowledged extramarital affair with a former state employee.” Remember when you first heard about Eliot Spitzer’s involvement with prostitutes, and everyone was like, “Okay, so who the hell is David Paterson?” Well, let’s get to know current Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravitch! (We would link to his official New York State website, but, heh, that doesn’t even exist.) UPDATE: The Times Union has pointed out two recent rumors swirling around Paterson. One, of course, was highly publicized (nuzzling and kissing a young woman who was not his wife at a New Jersey restaurant). The other rumor, which didn’t get as much traction, has a State Trooper opening the door to a utility closet at the governor’s mansion and finding Paterson and an unidentified woman …

… Crime does pay, it turns out. Remember the teens that were part of the “Bling Ring” and were accused of stealing stuff from the likes of Orlando Bloom, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan? Yea, well, since then they’ve been featured in a Vanity Fair spread, appeared on Good Morning America, and one even has a reality show in the works. [People]

Jon Stewart told Bill O’Reilly of President Obama: “I can’t tell if he’s a Jedi Master, playing chess on a 3-level board or if this is kicking his ass.”
To answer that question, I might submit what is happening right now in the president’s home state and in the battle for the very Senate seat that Obama once occupied.
Very low Democratic turnout in bitter primaries produced a candidate for Lt. Governor who is a pawnbroker who was once charged with holding his girlfriend (later charged with prostitution) at knifepoint. The narrow gubernatorial primary contest featured bitter accusations over incumbent Gov. Pat Quinn’s ties to his corrupt predecessor, Rod Blagojevich, which ended in a tear-streaked concession speech. The winner of the primary for the president’s old seat is the 33-year-old heir to a crumbling bank that is notable for its unsavory clientele.
