Manhattan Adult Entertainment: A suddenly very popular ‘Tonight Show’

Tuesday representatives of the two sides were rumored to be meeting, and it could end with O’Brien leaving “Tonight.” Until then, he’s in the odd position of hosting a show on a network that he’s essentially warring with.
And that should help goose his ratings for the next few weeks at least. As late-night shows have proven in the past, there’s nothing like a scandal to draw eyeballs.
Letterman moved into first place over the summer after a firestorm over a joke he made about Sarah Palin’s daughter, and he solidified his lead last fall after coming clean about his affairs with female staffers.
Nearly two decades ago, a then-struggling Leno moved into first place after securing the first interview with Hugh Grant following his arrest for soliciting a prostitute.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Newark police officer accused of shaking down drug dealers faces retrial

A new trial isn’t expected to begin until May because Furlow’s attorney, Thomas Ashley, is handling a death penalty case in Philadelphia, authorities said.
Attorneys on both sides will meet Friday morning with Superior Court Judge Peter Ryan in Newark to set a new trial date, said Peter Aseltine, a spokesman for the attorney general’s office.
Ashley, who represented Furlow in the previous trial that ended Dec. 16 with a hung jury, said he intends to stay on as counsel. He said his client was “heartened” when the jury revealed it had voted, 8-4, in favor of acquittal, before deadlocking.
Furlow’s arrest — along with fellow officer Darius Smith — was part of a larger investigation by the state Division of Criminal Justice and Newark police into allegations so-called rogue officers robbed drug dealers and prostitutes, resold drugs and sold guns, planted drugs on victims and filed false reports over a three-year period.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Theater Listings: Jan. 15 — 21

… ‘WEST SIDE STORY’ In a startlingly sweet revival of this epochal musical, Arthur Laurents trades insolence for innocence, with dividends and losses. If the Jets and the Sharks seem too cute to be true, the show’s doomed lovers (played by Josefina Scaglione and Matt Cavenaugh) have rarely been more affecting. And as Anita, Karen Olivo is a stunner (2:35). Palace Theater, 1564 Broadway, near 46th Street , (212) 307-4100, ticketmaster.com. (Brantley)20100114
Off Broadway
★ ‘AVENUE Q’ Even without legs of their own, the singing hand puppets of this Tony-winning musical are still standing tall in their new Off Broadway digs. This “Sesame Street”-style show about being young and jobless in New York remains fresh, in all senses of the word (2:15) New World Stages, 340 West 50th Street, Clinton , (212) 239-6200, telecharge.com. (Brantley)20100114
‘CAPTAIN PANTOJA AND THE SPECIAL SERVICE/PANTALEÓN Y LAS VISITADORAS’
Peruvian soldiers in the Amazon need female companionship, so Captain Pantoja enlists a whole corps of prostitutes, complete with cute, midriff-baring uniforms. This rousing, sexy and surprisingly sweet new musical could give bawdiness a good name. In Spanish with simultaneous English translation.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Jay Leno Officially Gets Tonight Show

There are a few rumors out there now regarding how quickly Conan will be gone from The Tonight Show. Next week may be his last with attempts being made to score big guests and send the show out with a bang. Also unsubstantiated is that NBC has been contacting talent to guest host the show in the gap between when Conan leaves and the Winter Olympics.
Conan has been hilarious in the last few shows taking shots at NBC and now offering up “classic moments” from the show’s seven month run. Ratings have soared as support has been strongly in his corner. The ironic thing about all this is how it may have turned out to be the “Hugh Grant” moment for Conan. Leno was struggling in ratings for two years before he had the Hugh Grant interview soon after his arrest with a prostitute.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Conan’s Ratings Up Again: Is This His Hugh Grant Moment?

The “Tonight” number is particularly impressive since NBC’s primetime performance is best these days on Tuesdays. And yet O’Brien did better even though the network supplied less of a lead-in on Wednesday. (Note: These are demo numbers that will change dramatically when finals are released next week, though it’s likely the gains will hold, along with the advantage over Letterman).
The ratings might also suggest a bit of momentum building around Team Conan, as online support (and media coverage thereof) picks up steam.
Indeed, if the life expectancy for “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” weren’t so bleak, one could almost see this week as O’Brien’s Hugh Grant moment.
Conventional wisdom in late night holds that Jay Leno didn’t really turns things around on his version of “Tonight” until Hugh Grant’s post-prostitute visit in 1995, during which Leno famously asked, “What the hell were you thinking?” Viewers had come to for the Grant freakshow, but liked how Leno performed– and the tide turned in Leno’s favor.

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Construction Of Phase II On Gateway Of Carteret Project To Begin

The construction of a public plaza has also been planned, making way for street-side cafes. The Roosevelt Avenue streetscape will include decorative pavers, ornamental-style street lighting and green space, maintaining consistency with the town’s many other completed streetscape projects. “Gateway at Carteret will evolve into a complete town center, including a parking deck to accommodate many new residents, employees and visitors expected to flow into Chrome,” said Kaplan.
“Kaplan’s ongoing project has been a welcome improvement to the Chrome neighborhood,” Reiman said. “Gateway promises to be among the vanguard of urban revitalization projects throughout the state. This historic part of Carteret will ultimately be returned to its former commercial and residential stature, while offering comfortable residency, convenient access to commuter resources, as well retail space.”
“This project has always been a 7-10 year build out,” Reiman added. “While we would love to have seen Phase II start earlier, the national and regional economy has impacted every construction dollar and permit across the nation. We are fortunate that although this process has been slow-going, vacant building lots have been a far cry from the abandoned buildings, crime and prostitution that formerly characterized this neighborhood.”

Manhattan Strip Clubs: ‘Faces Of The Gone:’ a look at Newark’s seamy side

Parks’ writing is witty and entertaining. This is not your average doom and gloom mystery. While Ross spends some time at the beginning of the novel bemoaning the fate of printed newspapers, this is just the calm before the storm.
Ross’s main assistant is Tommy Hernandez, a young Cuban-American gay guy, who constantly bemoans Ross’s pleated pants and generally Ivy League appearance. Not a look to advertise in Newark’s seamy streets, Hernandez thinks. But Ross talks like an Ivy Leaguer and he will continue to dress like one. Gang members think this is funny.
Ross comes up with an amazing bunch of contacts, some of which he has known for a long time, others he connects with for the case. How about a stripper/hooker that he ends up taking to the Outback Steakhouse as the price for her knowledge? And what’s the Director’s retribution for her contact with Ross?

Manhattan Adult Entertainment: Conan O’ Brien Statement

NBC network authorities are speculating that this statement made by Conan O’ Brien would likewise effectively end Conan’s 16-year affiliation with the network. In fact, one of Conan’s staff Deon Cole compared Conan O’Brien to a prostitute and the network to his pimp.

BEACHAM OFFERED $64,000 FOR SEX
DYNASTY diva STEPHANIE BEACHAM was once the recipient of a very indecent proposal – she was offered $64,000 (£40,000) for a night of sex.
The 62-year-old actress is currently starring in British reality show Celebrity Big Brother, alongside Stephen Baldwin, Sisqo, Ivana Trump and former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss.
And when glamour model Nicola T told the group she thought the ex-brothel boss was “the most interesting person I think I’ve ever met in my life,” Beacham was quick to reveal her own scandalous dealings.
She told her shocked housemates, “Highest I’ve ever been offered for a night is 40 grand.”
But actor Baldwin misheard the 62 year old, naively enquiring, “Forty pound?”
