The Blind Barber: Finally, New York Gets a Restaurant and Salon, All in One
Tuesday, Jan. 12 2010 @ 10:30AM
Remember back in October, when for a few tantalizing hours it looked like the former Mercury Dime space was going to become the city’s very first restaurant-barbershop-massage parlor? It seemed too good to be true, and sadly, it was.

At last night’s Community Board 3 meeting, the owner of Plan B appeared to apply for a license transfer for — wait for it — the tavern and salon he’s planning to open in the Plan B space on East 10th Street. “We’re re-tooling the concept,” he explained. No, really?
The new place will be called the Blind Barber, and will continue to serve food from Gnocco, the Italian restaurant next door that supplied Plan B with its bar bites. And while one might reasonably worry that the old ‘waiter, there’s a hair in my soup’ chestnut could assume terrifyingly realistic proportions in such an estab …

Just two years removed from being tagged with a 30-game ban for his part in the “Malice at The Palace” melee, Stephen Jackson was suspended seven games after firing a revolver in a strip club parking lot during a fight for which he initially faced felony battery charges. Jackson told authorities he only fired his weapon in the air after a battle broke out with another group of party-goers during which they attempted to run him over with their vehicle. Is it just me, or does trouble seem to perpetually follow Mr. Jackson?
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Jackson, left, listens to attorney James Voyles during a court hearing in Rochester Hills, Mich., Friday, Jan. 25, 2007. Jackson violated his probation in Michigan when Indiana prosecutors charged him with firing a gun outside a strip club, a judge ruled Friday. Jackson was serving probation after pleading no contest to misdemeanor assault and battery charges in September 2005 for his role in a 2004 brawl between Indiana Pacers players and fans at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

It’s said that Snooki was paid $10,000 to party at the casino, which happens to be the same location where Anna Nicole Smith died. Judging from what I’ve seen online, Snooki spent a good deal of her time looking snockered and swinging around a stripper pole. From what I remember, she’s quite acrobatic, so perhaps she wouldn’t actually deliver a bad show (but please, no thong-flashing).

… The July 2007 articles accused Amicone of “corruption permeating his administration; no-show jobs for political cronies resulting in the theft of taxpayers’ money in excess of $1 million’ repeated First Amendment violations; failure to curb and/or attempt to curb systemic police brutality … inability and/or unwillingness to reduce city spending and taxes; [and] gross misuse of the city’s police force to target plaintiff and other individuals, who non-disruptively distributed copies of “The Westchester Guardian” on city-owned public property, for criminal prosecution on a Yonkers Code violation,” according to the complaint.
Zherka adds that at an October 2007 campaign event, Amicone falsely accused him of being a “convicted drug dealer,” an “Albanian mobster,” and a “thug.” Zherka claims that the mayor warned about 60 people at the event that if he were defeated in the election, Zherka would open “strip clubs” and “drug dens,” and “‘loot’ Yonkers residents’ ‘pension funds’ and ‘loot’ the city of Yonkers.”
